ammo bearers
The finest man I knew
Was our regimental bhisti, Gunga Din.
He was "Din! Din! Din!
You limpin' lump o' brick-dust, Gunga Din!
Hi! slippery "hitherao"!
Water, get it! "Panee lao"! [Bring water swiftly.]
You squidgy-nosed old idol, Gunga Din."
The most telling feature about this community is the fact that people willingly spend an entire round doing nothing but bringing ammo to the mortars.

Well, I don't get it honestly, because if you get 4 supply crates, 1 officer and 1 regular rifleman (w/ ammo), you are off to a gooooooooooood time... Don't need to put the crates ON the mortar, I think the ammo bag works just as fine, if not better.

Re: ammo bearers
Mate, first of all mortars are ammo eaters and with 4 supp crates you'll barely manage to cover like 2 firemissions. A constant stream of crates is essential for every mortar-crew. 4-men squad is ideal (1Officer: Providing the badly needed crates - 2 Riflemen/or Corpsman, so you can spot casualties and fire on your own, risky tho: Operating the mortars - 1Rifleman: Rearming the mortars with ammo bags)goguapsy wrote:Well, I don't get it honestly, because if you get 4 supply crates, 1 officer and 1 regular rifleman (w/ ammo), you are off to a gooooooooooood time... About OPs sentence:
Well, talking for myself, I think its just the idea in the back of your head, that you are supporting you whole team and providing other players an awesome experience. If you believe in karma you'll know that everything you, do will come down on you again in the same manner

Mate, one ammo bag = 4 rounds, and a supply crate will do a lot of ammo bags for you.
I've only mortared once, so I don't have the exp, but hey...

Only ammo bags supply the mortars so you can't just drop a crate on top of a mortar to keep ur ammo up if thats what you mean goguapsy

Funny how those small ammo bags can resupply everything from 9mm to HUGE Strela / Stinger missiles

Sometimes, I play not for the thrill and action, but just for spending time with something relaxing, like chatting with the squad and driving a supply truck. And at the same time, I actually do something useful, so that's awesome

Oh I thought that the crates on top of the mortars rearmed it alright haha, thanks for clearing that out.RememberTheAlamo wrote:Only ammo bags supply the mortars so you can't just drop a crate on top of a mortar to keep ur ammo up if thats what you mean goguapsy
I think we actually killed a few people when resupplying them, you know, with the crates falling on top of them haha.

They have been designed according to the TARDIS principle, bigger on the inside.Stealthgato wrote:Funny how those small ammo bags can resupply everything from 9mm to HUGE Strela / Stinger missiles![]()

Indeed, they're far more useful this way[R-DEV]strima wrote:They have been designed according to the TARDIS principle, bigger on the inside.
As far as ammo, four crates will go a long way. You shouldn't need more than 3 people in a mortar squad to run it properly, using a 4th just means there is often one guy simply hanging out. Typically, there is plenty of time between legitimate fire missions to reload, if not the 2nd mortar can supply the first. No reason to take more people off the front lines just to move ammo, the mortar gunners should be doing that themselves for the most part
^^^All from personal experience by the way, I've probably spent 10 or so hours mortaring.

i personally find the 4 man mortar team to be ideal. you have 2 guys on the mortars all the time, one guy reloading them and the officer making ammo runs.
what i really find amazing about his game is peoples willingness to do boring jobs. running a logi truck all game is boring as hell, but ill tell you something, theres a good chance you just wont he game with those fire bases you built.

Re: ammo bearers
I can't say I've operated the mortars for more than 10 hours, but I have operated them for several hours and in my experience, four crates is child's play. Each time I was in a mortar squad, we went through more than 20 crates at minimum. However, that being said, our mortar squad was also very proactive in providing continuous support instead of waiting for a desperate squad leader's request.[R-MOD]BloodBane611 wrote: As far as ammo, four crates will go a long way.
Ammo consumption depends on the map and the players on the map. But four is still very little.

Re: ammo bearers
I think 4 is the right size unless you have a helo or a truck from another squad doing supply runs because if you are firing steadily you can't keep up with RoF with 4 crates and 1 person per tube.

A few days ago someone showed me i can rearm both mortars by only feeding ammo to the one that was built first. Thank you anonymous helpful stranger!

I enjoy being in a mortar squad, its probably the only way i can get a decent KDR lol
And the ammo bags remind me of mary poppins carpet bag, all i need now is a spoonful of sugar and i'm happy
