Wtf. If you go prone, your deviation resets.vance14 wrote:go prone, wait three seconds and then fire![]()
Go crouch, wait a second or two and fire single shots at reasonable intervals.

If you want to get a handle on shooting, set up Ramiel infantry layer co-op for 48 bots on 10 difficulty (out of 100). Grab an assault rifle, then crouch and shoot at the zombie-like enemies. You'll get very good at shooting very quickly doing this.

Or just keep standing until you got the hang of it. Make sure you have the better position to begin with to avoid having to rely on luck. (Edit: This paragraph looks odd in this context. It was written at the same time as the post above, so don't take that one into account when reading
)
More detailed explanation:
Each weapon has a random deviation that simulates the soldiers ability to hold the weapon steady as well as other factors such as ballistics (although that does not matter on such close ranges of course).
Therefore, moving around much makes your weapons less accurate, while standing still (or better yet, lying prone for a while) adds to the accuracy. If you have a bipod and deploy it (and don't move for a while), it'll get even more accurate. However, when you move, your accuracy gets worse. The more "mobile" your stance, the better you are at shooting while/after moving.
So, if you were standing, then move a few steps, and stand again, you'll only have to wait a second or two and will be accurate again, since you were in a mobile stance. However, if you were prone or had a bipod deployed and then moved, you'd be a lot less accurate. The worst things you can do is sudden moves such as jumping or going prone suddenly, that completely screwes up your deviation.
Try to move slowly and take a moment before you shoot. Don't shoot too rapidly, and don't jump/go prone in the middle of a fight. Rather go prone BEFORE you shoot, then wait a while (at least 5 seconds), and then you'll be very accurate.

Re: Being able to hit targets
It really is ineffective. You become a smaller target, yes, but your deviation is instantly maxed as soon as you hit the ground. You might only be a thrid of the size you were before, but your cone of fire is certainly more than three times as large as it used to be, too. So at the end of the day, the enemy only has 30% the chance to hit you, while you have less than 30% your original chance to hit him. Just not a good deal.

you maybe become smaller, but the only thing that can be hit is you head now, so its basically easier to shoot a lying guy

Go crouch and empty your mag at full auto/burst if he is closer than 100 meters. If not, do what Chiz said.ChizNizzle wrote:Wtf. If you go prone, your deviation resets.

I hate you and anyone like you. When do you ever go prone when in a fire fight in real life?vance14 wrote:go prone, wait three seconds and then fire![]()
I wish they could do something about it, but I dont think it's possible with the engine.

The exception being if you get ambushed by somebody with the same or lower elevation than you.gazzthompson wrote:do not do this, never go prone in fighting less than 150m

Peace folks, we don't want this to turn into a flame, so let's leave it at this before people get infractions.
@topic: Sometimes going prone might work, but I'd only do it in very rare situations, such as when I only can take cover behind a very low object, or when I'm not going to directly engage anyway (e.g. I'm out of ammo already).

Re: Being able to hit targets
This may be kinda random but, did anybody know that you can shoot those little wooden crates that are about 3m^3 from about 150m away without even aiming down the sight and standing? You can hit them very consistently if you just stand still for about 10-15 seconds then shoot at about 1 second intervals. Its pretty dang cool and it shows that PR has great accuracy for their guns but it takes too long sometimes to get that accuracy. For instance, I could probably hit somebody at 15-20m with about 5 shots after coming to a sprinting halt and looking down the side of my gun (not sights) and get about 3 hits instantly (not waiting to get breathing under control). It's just not too hard to do that IRL. However in PR its pretty impossible to do that, you have to wait at least 3 secs. Just a random thought.

Re: Being able to hit targets
I heard that, if you are standing up and then you go crouch->Prone (instead of insta-prone) the deviation is actually minimal (ie. it doesn't reset). Is that accurate at all?

Not as far as I know. From all I know, going prone always resets deviation.

Re: Being able to hit targets
When it comes to short range accuracy the devs have chosen "something > gameplay" I say "something" because it definitely isn't realism, but it's been discussed to death.SeanRamey wrote:For instance, I could probably hit somebody at 15-20m with about 5 shots after coming to a sprinting halt and looking down the side of my gun (not sights) and get about 3 hits instantly (not waiting to get breathing under control).
