I think this story could very well change the Devs thoughts on civies being able to throw rocks at BlueFor and BlueFor not being able to shoot back.

Also you can refer to the slightly more relevant story of the British forces rescuing two British SF members from an Iraqi police forces prison after they were caught in Basrah driving a car 'full of explosives'. The crowd there set fire to a Warrior from the rescue party, badly burning one crewman and causing burns to two others. Several members of the crowd were shot.
In this case, why did the Colnels protection duty not stop the man before he could hit him? A guy with a rock seems little compared to what they presumably train for.

You can't see everything dude. His personal escort probably consists of 2 Marines, and even in small rooms, it's hard to watch every man's hand. Most likely they were watching the men in front of them in the meeting. It says in the article after he was introduced he backed away to observe. It wouldn't be hard for a man to hang around on a back wall then walk up. My sister's fiancee is a former Marine and he got hit in the face with a brick by an Iraqi while on a patrol.

I would have shot the guy too. You don't throw a rock at a guy holding a gun. And I love how the village elders called him "no one important." lol.
