MD5Tool Mismatch: mods\bf2\init.con (len=301)

Post by JoshMan42 »

I have read all of the solved topics and none of them have worked. I have reinstalled like 5 times, shutting down in between each step. Tried deleting the file, editing it, moving it, I don't understand why I still get this error. Nobody has an answer for this one either, everyone in the forum keeps telling people to reinstall or how to fix the shader problem, which is NOT my problem. Please if anyone has had this error before and fixed it please help, otherwise I'm just going to not play this game, again, until they release a new one, which has fixed my unfix able problems in the past :) . Thanks again.

Have you, by any chance, tried to skip BF2 intro movies? Because there is easier and more robust way to do that.

Oh, sorry I forgot to mention that it happens after I have connected to a server for around 5 minutes. After I reinstalled the last time I got to play most of a round I joined, but when it switched maps I got the error again in less than 5 minutes.

Time has nothing to do with this as PunkBuster check files one by one and it can easily take 5 minutes before this particular file pops up from the queue.

The file that generates the error initiates playback of BF2 intro movies when game is started. So have you tried to disable them somehow?

Disabling the Intro Movies

The introductory movies to BF2, although fun to watch the first couple of times, fast become quite annoying, adding to the start-up times for the game, as well as the memory usage (the main movie is 135MB in size). To disable them permanently, I don’t recommend deleting the movie files - this may cause problems with verification of client information on certain servers and/or with Punk-buster.

Instead, simply rename the relevant files in your \Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Movies\ directory to something else (e.g. rename the Intro.bik to Intro.backup). The files to rename are: Dice.bik, EA.bik, Intro.bik, Legal.bik and Welcome.bik. This will mean the intro movies are all skipped as BF2 starts to load. If you find the movies playing in the background of the Login screen and Settings screens annoying, you can also rename the menu.bik and menu_loggedin.bik to something else as well.

If you’ve also renamed/removed the menu.bik and menu_loggedin.bik movies, and don’t want a dull grey background in the in-game menus, then download this small BF2 Menu Movies .zip file, and extract the contents to your \Movies directory. These small files (100KB each) show the BF2 logo in the background, and look much nicer.

Removing all the original movies from the game can save over 250MB of data being loaded up during the start of the game and being placed into memory - this will help smooth your game play particularly for those with less RAM. If for any reason you experience any problems with the game after renaming the movies, simply rename them back to their original names.

Note: Instead of the above, you can simply use the +restart command line command in your BF2 startup icon.

I found this, but would it help with the verification process? If I rename/delete my file it will still not be the correct hash. And if I use the command I would think it would just stop it from playing at the beginning, not stopping the error.

EDIT: And this is what my init.con file says, is yours the same?

Is it just me or does PB seem to cause more headaches than it solves??

I have had a lot of problems with PB and have never used hacks online. It is the best anti cheat software though as far as how many people it catches, but I'm not too worried about being beat by cheaters if I can't play in the first place. People should just have an admin on and use those ban lists. PB is a good idea though, just needs a bit of work yet, and it doesn't help that new hacks come out all the time.

So can someone please post the contents of their init.con file?
