Dual GPU & Tri-monitor Setup?

Here is what I would like to do. Currently I have an old 8800 GT running a 22" and a 26" monitor in extended desktop mode. I am probably getting a new 470 GTX. If I get another 22" monitor, can I use the older 8800 GT to render the outer 22" monitors for miscellaneous use and use the 470 GTX to render the center 26" monitor for gaming?

I know I can't run in SLI cause not same cards and I think a single 470 GTX beats two 8800 GT in SLI. This way maybe the older card could take some of the workload off the newer card.

What do you think, would it work this way? TIA.
