GTX460's in SLI

Post by mutti_wilson »

I recently upgraded my card setup to 2 GTX460 1gb's in SLI. I am not seeing much of an improvement over my 8800gt's I had. Is there some tweaks for SLI that can boost my performance?

Specs are
Phenom II X4 945 3.0ghz
4gb ram
2x GTX460 1gb's @825/1850
700w PSU
Settings are all high @ 1920x1200 2x FSAA
W7 Pro 64bit

Also do you know if the Nvidia profile for BF2.exe is activated since pr.exe is the program loaded? Should i make a profile for pr.exe to mirror bf2.exe?

to answer this question. Bf2 starts when you laod PR so it shouldnt be an issue.
Just look at Task Manager and you see bf2.exe or something/.

Some games don't take advantage of dual GPU set ups which means little to no performance boost. Try playing other games that require a lot of GPU power and compare the performance from one card to your SLI cards.

I notice a big jump in benchmarks and most of my other games, but not so much in BF2. I was just wondering if there was a tweak that bumped up the performance.

There ya go. BF2 is just such an old game it isn't capable of making use of two high end GPUs. The good thing is that it works fine in your other games. :)

You can check and make sure that in the Nvidia Control Panel in the SLI config section it sais "maximize performance" and not "Disable SLI"

but I doubt it will make much of a difference in BF2

Wjat other games do you have because BF2.. and especially PR do not really take advantage of High-end GPu's. It's Just too old. i kknow a guy who is running a very old setup with a 6800 Ultra and gets better FPS at 1920x1080 with 4xAA than guys running 470's or even a 580. i recently Purchased a 560 and didn't notice much of an increase in performance in PR or AIX. It's mostly CPU related and BF2 doesn't take advantage of Multiple cores so.. Don't worry about it. ;)
