VOIP problem

Post by ironcitycats »

Hi guys, I don't have a mic but would like to at least be able to hear audio commands from SL/Commanders til I get my Xbox mic back from my brother (I'm pretty sure the Xbox mic will work after I did some researching online. Might have to download drivers from MS). After posting on the forum a little while ago, some members think I might have a technical problem since I don't hear anyone's voice. I hear the music and sound fx but no human voice from server players. Forgive me, I'm not the most computer savvy person, but I'm not a dummy either. Below are some PC specs/game options I'm running:

BF2 on Steam, PR.957. I select PR desktop icon and run as administrator first, then Steam asks for Ok to run, I hit 'continue' and PR starts right up, no problem.

PC:Windows Vista - Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8 ghz - 4.0 GB RAM - 64 bit - ATI Radeon HD3450
15 minutes ago, I started PR, went to options/audio. This is what I see:

Enable EAX box is checked.
Voice over volume @ 50%.
English VO only box is NOT checked.
Voice over IP box is NOT checked.
VOIP volumes - Transmit 0% / Receive 0% / Boost Mic Gain box is NOT checked.

Someone said I should try checking the VOIP box. I checked the VOIP box and hit 'apply'. It saved it and I then went onto a server to play and still couldn't hear people. I went back into audio settings and noticed the VOIP box wasn't checked anymore. For some reason, it's not staying checked, even after I hit 'apply'.

I have never used Mumble, Teamspeak or Ventrillo. Not sure which one does what or if I even need any of them to hear my human teammates online.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help and my apologies for rambling on (just wanted to be as descriptive as possible). Should you need more specific info, etc. etc. just let me know as I'll be online for awhile. I'm reading the Mumble guide on the prteamwork website right now. Other than than that, the game runs fine, no glitches, no lag. :D

Have you tried changing your voip settings in regular Battlefield 2?

Same problem in BF2. When I go to audio options in BF2 and check the VOIP box, it will say it's saved, but when I go right back to audio options, the box is still unchecked.

VOIP volumes - Transmit 0% / Receive 0% / Boost Mic Gain box is NOT checked
You need to set the Transmit and Recieve to something higher than 0%, try 100%
Best line yet...

If SnipeHunt's suggestion doesn't work, there may be another way to fix this.
It seems that BF2 can't enable VOIP unless it detects an input device. Right click on the speaker icon in your system tray and click on Recording Devices. Look for either Realtek Digital Input or Stereo Mix. If they are disabled, enable one or both of them. If you don't see them, right click anywhere in the list of devices and check Show Disabled Devices.
