Re: Settting up a reference image(question)
if you have uninstalled max, you need to setup your viewport drivers again to get maximal texture resolution on your reference images.
So go to customize or something like that, viewport tab, configure drivers... in the bottom select the largest texture sizes (probably 1024) for both options and/or check the "match as closely as possible" box.
Max needs to be restarted before the changes can take effect.

Re: Settting up a reference image(question)
Ok, for some reason I cna't use the view cube with Direct X? How come and can I force it to work? I can't get the same detail on the reference image without it
and is there anyway to make the tri lines GO AWAY? Ugh I can't see my work with all the damn lines
damn it corrupted the work im doing ><
figured it out my laptop vid card is not good enough for DX10 work'
still stinks that my 1.5 days of work went down the drain
Though on the plus side the view cube came back XD
