Transfering OS

Im thinking of getting a new mother board so im able to upgrade later on. I was wondering if there is anyway to take Windows 7 64-bit from my old computer and put it on the new system?

:Note I do not have the CD since it was bought from dell off the internet, also im using same hardrive if that changes anything.

If your keeping the same Hard Drive, Then it shouldnt be a problem.

It's fine, Win 7 will auto update most Chipset drivers. Is the new motherboard the same company?

Will a new mobo/chipset work with an old copy. I replaced my mobo with a new board, but same chipset and had no problems but researched before doing it and saw alot of no-booting after replacing the board with one with a different chipset.

I'm not sure yet. But I would keep same hard drive. Not sure about chip sets and stuff this is the first time I would be upgrading motherboard. It's just I don't want to spend $150 on windows 7 64bit if I don't have to.

Alright then, you will be using the same hard drive which is where your OS is stored, therefore you will not need to reinstall. Happy upgrading.

There can be a problem if your old system has AHCI turned off and you want to use AHCI on your new one. You would need to modify the registry before-hand.

The OS installs to the hard drive, not the motherboard; you don't need to do anything with the OS/Hard Drive.
