I have found a way to open Maya files with 3D Max 9 but it doesnt like items like a cable. (maybe some settings need changing)
If i import this will it work with the BF2 engine ?
IE i can do work on maya and then export it for 3d Max?

Re: Maya to 3D Max?
we need a little more information. What kind of model is it (weapon, vehicle ect)? And as far as i know the only way to transfer maya to max is by exporting as a OBJ file and that normally mess's with the mesh and verticies. So to be blunt yes but would i reckomend doing it no.SuperArmy wrote:I have found a way to open Maya files with 3D Max 9 but it doesnt like items like a cable. (maybe some settings need changing)

HangMan: BF2 Editor, it has very strict limitations memory wise, and crashes all the time. Its like a girl. Treat it with respect and take it slow and you'll get places. Rush and get ahead of yourself and it will turn around and punch you in the mouth

Re: Maya to 3D Max?
Yeah, it's not really recommended to go moving Maya to Max. Just start in Max as it's more geared towards game assets being imported into a game engine, and it's especially friendly with the Unreal engine.
When I was in school, I learned Maya and Max at the same time and quickly saw how each has it's uses for 3d modeling. You can use Maya for hi-res stuff, but the grunt work of getting assets into the game is what Max is really geared towards.
You might try breaking up your models into small basic sections and then transfer them to Max that way, then re-assemble/fix them in Max. VERY messy process!
Your much better off using the same 3d app from start to finish, rather than moving a model across multiple modeling applications.
Trying to take models in one application format and open them in another application is many times from people trying to open up models originally made in a file format they don't currently have, such is the case between Maya and Max, and that more than likely means the person is trying to open somebody else's stuff and use it, which of course would require prior approval.
