Not a model but one of the new Max features...

Really quite amazing.

That's totally awesome. I've heard Z-trooper talking about such features in the past but never seen a video or tutorial on it beforeTim270 wrote:Not a model but one of the new Max features...

I can see this being a very useful feature for some of my future projects

3DS Max - a set on Flickr
Here's my work on 3DS Max 2011 so far
i'm aving an issue on "Lizzy" cause she has so many rounded edges and Im wondering how I'd do it since I'm mostly using chamfer and move around some peices but at the rounded corners, it gets bad really fast

Re: Show your models thread...(IMAGE HEAVY)
I found what was causing the unwrapper errors on my Kukri. Turns out I had a object in the scene that, well did not exist, so to speak. Had not verts etc not quite sure what happened but anyway deleting that fixed it. I guess the program could not unwrap something that did not exist.
Alpha bakes. Low poly came out at 700 tris.

Some obvious errors, just going to take a little while to tweak the cage a bit I guess.
Also Martini Henry.

Re: Show your models thread...(IMAGE HEAVY)
Anyone have good examples of models that I could create for a Portfolio?
Im applying for a Uni Course based which covers modelling, lighting, texturing, animating and they said a portfolio greatly increases your chances of getting in.
My only skill (if you can call it that) is 3D Modelling, not very good with texturing or even UV Mapping, so obviously ill be putting models into the portfolio...
Just anything particular, ive tried to do a diverse range such as - High Poly Object Modelling (Skateboard and a football), High Poly weapon modelling (MP40 and an MP5), Low Poly Game Modelling (for Total War/Company of Heroes - Too many models to mention, was thinking of montage of these + a Fire Truck)
Anything else? Ive been recommended to do a character model, but this is still a very low point for me, hardly tried it really :/

Imo better model something unusual, whoever is reviewing applications most likely see a million of AKs, M4/16 like rifles, MP-40s and MP5s etc. each year and this year wont be an exceptionJust anything particular, ive tried to do a diverse range such as - High Poly Object Modelling (Skateboard and a football), High Poly weapon modelling (MP40 and an MP5), Low Poly Game Modelling (for Total War/Company of Heroes - Too many models to mention, was thinking of montage of these + a Fire Truck)

Re: Show your models thread...(IMAGE HEAVY)
I think a mix of things is the best approach. I.e
1 Modern weapon with accurate(ish) details - Just to show you can
1 space/scifi/conecpt weapon - for creativity
1-2 environment props
Maybe a vehicle?
Also I would include the mod-work if it is nicely presentable.
Maybe some stuff shown in-engine UDK/Marmoset etc.
But then again, I am pretty much in the same boat and am not the best person to answer this, but I think showing a range of techniques for different meshes intended for different styles/engines is the best approach. To be honest I would not get hung up on doing a character model for it also but that is just me.

As part of my masters thesis I will be working with creating network traffic for an FPS game. Me and my trusty partner will be creating the game ourselves. It will be very limited however, with only one generic character, 3 weapons and 2 maps as we will be working on the net code mostly.
Here is a two-night high poly speed model of the modular weapon system that will be used. This particular configuration is an assault rifle. Yes, not entirely practical, but it isn't exactly for PR hehe.

And a block out of the character.

Playing a bit around with the mobility in the armor to see if it is acceptable for a prototype:

ohhh very nice, is that the model of the concepts you showed me before of thous modular weapons? Its looking truly sexy!
Although the pistol grip looks a little small to me, I doubt I could get my hand inside of it hehe

Re: Show your models thread...(IMAGE HEAVY)
Since I steped down as a pr dev, I've been doing some work in UDK ...
I have to say it's a hell of a lot more fun than working on the old bf2 Refractor engine...
It's so much more flexible and powerful...
But I still have a lot more to learn.
Here's a little desert environment Ive been working on for about a week or two .. still only a wip.

Not finished and alas, not for PR......I do have some other stuff up my sleeve tho
24,000 tris, unsurprisingly, its for a racing game
