New here
Hello, I'm new to PR and was wondering where I can get a good start with training or a clan. I would like to gain experience and knowledge of PR and it is very difficult to do this alone.
I'm currently 15, turning 16 next month. I consider myself to be very mature, but I'll leave that up to anyone who plays with me. I love Teamwork and will usually do whatever is needed to benefit the team and/or squad. I do have a mic, but It's an Xbox360 turtle beach headset and I'm waiting for an adapter for it to arrive in the mail so I can use it with my PC. I'm a fast learner and willing to try new things all the time.
So how can I become a part of the PR community and get proper training?
Thanks in advance.

I know that Wicca runs a course for training new players.( Cant find link now, have to go to bed.)
If you want to hang out with my clan ( 508th PIR). Send me a PM and I will give you our TS and Xfire and we can play a few games. I think you would have fun

Welcome to the community! Maturity and having a mic are half of learning PR.Grey wrote:Hello, I'm new to PR and was wondering where I can get a good start with training or a clan. I would like to gain experience and knowledge of PR and it is very difficult to do this alone.

My recommendation: Find a server that you like, and remember: PR is about fun as well!

My 2c:
Play on Tactical Gamer and PR Teamwork Alliance as much as you can if you want an immersive experience which strives on teamwork and coordination. Stay away from 24/7 servers and anything where English is not the primary language.
As soon as you can, set up Mumble regardless of whether you have a mic or not. Mumble is a 3rd party program which allows you to speak to others ingame when they are close to you. The further I walk away from you ingame, the louder I would have to talk, just like in real life. It is useful for talking to friendlies who are not in your squad, such as a tank near you providing fire support. Even if your mic isn't working, its useful if people are talking to you. You can simply nod up and down when they talk so they know.
Read the PR manual here.
Get Xfire and add as many people as you can by clicking the little icons under people's avatars (mine and bloodythirsty_viking's for example). Xfire is the gaming equivalent of Windows Live Messenger. It shows what people are playing, what servers, and you can chat with them.
Do not join a clan yet. Play for at least a couple of weeks and get a different taste from each one, such as the Tactical Gamer In-House Squads (IHS) which are small groups of guys who are like minded, they can be identified by their tags like |TG-31st| |TG-X| etc.
Don't lead a squad, at all. Learn before you lead.

Re: New here
Use the Co-op mode to play with all the assets. Find a server that's empty, create a squad, invite a few bots to join, and request whatever kit you want. Build FOB's, fire mortars, use sniper/marksmen/HAT etc. Fly/drive to your heart's content and get a feel for the game.
Bots won't whine or complain that you stole their asset. Note that there are SP enable vehicles on the maps for the bots to use. Most MP version aircraft and vehicles are away from the bot spawn points.

I believe PRTA has a training group/night. PM Wicca if you are interested in the training.
PRTA and Tactical Gamer are great servers that are teamwork oriented and well admined.

Re: New here
I know this isn't the newest thread but I'd like to throw my hat into this one as well.
The difficulties for me are: I wouldn't always be able to play regularly, will this cause any kind of problems, or can you dip in and out (for want of a better phrase) of PR if necessary? I ask mainly as University means the restrictions on my time are vastly different at different times.
I don't have a USB mic, I currently am using a quite odd setup involving a Shure SM57 and audio interface. This seems to work for Mumble, but PR just uses the onboard anyway (which actually didn't sound that bad on the microphone test, so maybe this is an option?).
All in all I'm just a bit nervous about joining any games at the moment as I'm pretty green as regards PC games in general, with only a little experience in any kind of semi-realistic shooters. I don't want to be a burden on anyone. However, I do want to get into this game as the teamwork element is something that really appeals to me, and I just haven't found it anywhere else.
Oh, for what it's worth, I'm 21, from the UK.

Play in coop for a bit. Get used to the weapons and stuff there and then join in some deployment matches

Re: New here
Hi Unopiate.
You're new to the first person shooter genre? If so, you'll probably learn how to shoot in PR faster than someone used to a game where the sights are accurate (no settle time to allow the movement induced 'deviation' to settle).
I'm also 21, and from the UK. My reccomendation:
1) Read the manual from top to bottom. Ignore the Commander bits if you're in a rush (which is ok, you want to play, that's cool).
2) Download and install Mumble (search these forums for the PR version, technically it is still Beta and is different from the 'regular' Mumble, which it is not compatible with - PR only).
3) Configure your mic in game and in Mumble.
4) Go back to the manual and re-read the bit about being a Medic. Medic is the best way to learn PR, because you don't have to be a good shot, basically you just have to survive. Surviving is easy, shooting is not - This works in your favour as a new guy.
5) Join any server with a low ping, apart from PRTA or NWA (explained later).
6) Join an Inf squad (named Eng Inf, or the like). Once you're in, if they are talking over VOIP, before you spawn explain your position and ask them what they want you to do. If they are NOT talking over VOIP, and not cohesive, take a gun and learn the game by experimenting.
7) When you understand the spawn structure, how the guns work (deviation), how people communicate, and why you shouldn't just take random vehicles/kits, join the PRTA or NwA servers.
Join a squad and make sure youre on Mumble. Tell the squad leader what you've done so far (basically all the steps above) and ask him what to do from there.
Stick with Inf squads, because it's the quickest way to learn.
Tips:
# Don't take vehicles or anything but the Rifleman kit without asking your Squad Leader.
# Some squads are just terrible, full of people who go rambo or don't communicate. Fine for experimenting with (try out the medic kit or Automatic Rifleman kit) because the SL won't care. But not good for proper teamwork games (when you're in a good squad you'll KNOW it, and know why it's better).
# the '9' key is your Patch. It will top your health up, and if you're lucky will mean you stop bleeding altogether. Give it a go when youre experimenting.
Apart from that, just realise that if you take part 100% and use your mic to communicate (unusual and hard at first, for me, anyway), it will become second nature and you will have brilliant games with brilliant people. Sometimes you will do this and you will have a **** game, but it's luck of the draw - Not everybody is a good enough person to bother and it's a shame, but f**k 'em.
All the best bud.

Re: New here
To answer your question, btw: No, you don't have to commit much time to PR in order to enjoy it. Once you know how stuff works, there's nothing you HAVE to do. I haven't played a round of PR in weeks, but I could hop onto one of my favorite servers and have an great one any time. So don't worry if you can't play every day, week or even month. PR's excellent for both, playing it daily as well as taking long breaks.

Re: New here
It was nearly a year since I played PR properly and I could jump in one version after without much hassle, ofc something is new and so on, but just reading the news on the front page and the forum (that I spend to much time in compared to the gaming time). There will always be something you can learn in PR, new tactics and I still find people not knowing that you can right click when you request kits from ingame objects and you get an alternative aim sight. Just play and have fun, though if the SL is serious just listen to him and everything will go smooth.Unopiate wrote:I know this isn't the newest thread but I'd like to throw my hat into this one as well.

I'm new here too, I've played BF2 a lot in the past but I lost my box with the CD and my serial key.. I'm overturning my whole home looking for that game because I'm too cheap to buy another one.. Once I get my hands on BF2 again I can jump right into PR. I look forward to seeing you on the battlefield soldier!

Please read everything that was posted in this thread to guide you through. Believe me, starting in the PR world oblivious to anything is quite intimidating. So experiment weapons and assets solo (by creating local), co-op or stinky servers (easily identifiable) before taking part of good servers like PRTA, NwA or TG (NEW, UKWF and UNSTF are worth a look too).
Once you think you've mastered the basics, just pop up in one of the above and tell your SL that you're new.
Don't forget to download Mumble and XFire (latter optional if you don't want to be much involved with other community gamers).
