What makes a good server

Post by SGT.MARCO »

This is for the feedback to other servers about important things that players look for in a server, it may consist of the following.
  • community
  • administraters
  • mumble
  • teamspeak
  • map layout
  • ping
  • rules
  • events
  • etc.
I am anxious to know what makes a good server, hopefully server admins may respond back, learn from this post in order to better suit the needs of PR players, and also to give better accommodation for PR

A Wicca.

With no Wicca, your server shall fail.

;)

But really, a good community to back it up.

For me its rules, admins that dont go power hungry or SHUT UP when theres a bit of talk on the chat. Different maps every evening and if they force mumble (and thus teamwork) or not.

Good community behind your server = server almost always populated

A good/fair and active admin team

Those are the two big things in my opinion. If you have a good community and good admins then your server will be populated more often, and because of the good admins people will want to play there because they get good games.

Kind of true, yes.

I don't believe this is necessary, however it does enchance the gameplay.

It is very important to have a community that wants to play in fair teams. On some servers you see teamstacking of the regulars and the admins on one side and have to play with the leftovers and lonewolfs on the other. Usually not a server i want to play on again. And yes, you need admins, that only enforce the basic rules instead of abusing their rights to satisfy their needs.

- A good mix between AAS amd Insurgency, so not 5 INS or AAS in a row but 1 AAS and then 1 INS
- Good Admins
- Mumble always required
- A server that won't crash constantly (Something =)H(= has a problem with)
- No crappy maps in the maplist or maps that will let almost everybody crash (Burning Sands, Wanda Shan, Fools Road, Kozelsk)
- A server positioned in a good location to give North- America and Europe a good Ping (And the other continents of course!)
We are staying up!

I prefer servers that do something more like 2AAS and 2 INS. That just me though =P

I dont think i ever have played a round with wicca in all the years of playing pr lol, But ya, Having admins who only admin and keep the server free of tards is basically the best thing you can do.

If we're talking about 64p servers, than - 2 mumble teams, lots of people on mumble. That is pretty much it (I'm not kidding).

Good servers:
NEW (when 128p server is running :) ), TG, PRTA, Pelitutka, UKWF and NWA.

Custom mumble/TS servers are total fail.
Some German servers have their own mumble servers, so there is no people on regular mumble.
Russian servers are filled with players on custom TS servers, so you won't hear any coms ingame.

EDIT:
This is my experience from the last time I played on those servers, that was like... half a year - year ago. Maybe things have changed. Also, I played few times on certain Russian servers, and from what I've seen, they don't shovel. Like... never. Again, it could be just me, maybe I joined a good server at the worse time, maybe it was a training day, I dunno. Anyway, it stopped me from playing on those servers again.

One point worth noting; if you repeat 1 AAS, 1 INS all night you will have the same teams being Blufor and Opfor on Insurgency maps every time. Better to do 2 AAS, 1 INS or 2 INS back to back (although in my experience people whinge an awful lot if you do the latter one)

All of the above; especially Ping, Map Rotation, Consistently Reliable Server (minimal crashes - stable set-up), & absolutely essential IMO is the quality of Team-Work oriented players populating the server. ;)

A good server is a server that forces teamwork and obligatory mumble. But that doesn't mean I can't enjoy my time elsewhere, it means that I will always prefer the forced teamwork and mumble server over any other. After playing in PRTA I've found that even TG doesn't fulfil my needs for teamwork. It's strange, I know.
