[Help] Editor Road issues
I was just wondering after about an hour of searching google.
Has anyone found a solution to the glitch that when you press the "Apply Spline" button, the terrain doesn't snap to the road and all the terrain disappears?
I'm trying to make a mountain road and this would be greatly appreciated

Re: [HELP] Editor Road issues
I'm not entirely sure why this happens, but it doesnt happen all the time afaik.
It seems to happen most often when the road you are applying is in contact with the surrounding terrain and you are lowering the terrain using the road.
So what I'd try to do is ensure your not touching the surrounding terrain while you do this, I think it screws up the coordinates or something.

Re: [HELP] Editor Road issues
For me, the terrain disappearing problem occurs most when I'm viewing the map with the terrain grid. If I change it to the normal terrain view before hitting "apply spline" it seems to help. This may be a coincidence, but it's happened to me enough that I'm guessing it's not.
Also, when it does happen, here's a way to save your work without saving the error:
- Save splines only
- Restart editor
- Select the spline you were working on and
- Apply spline again

What was the option that you referred to as normal Soccer? Was it Grid View, Texture mode, Grid with Texture mode, or detail texture mode?

Detail Texture Mode
Sorry for the confusion. Just avoid "Grid with Texture Mode" when applying a spline. It almost always makes my terrain disappear.

Re: [HELP] Editor Road issues
well I tried both of the ways suggested here and neither of them worked. I could possibly try installing the BF2 Editor again but I don't think it'll do much. Any ideas?

Re: [HELP] Editor Road issues
it sounds like a Win7 issue to me.
My only suggestion would be to either sculpt the terrain by hand, or use 3rd part tools like photoshop or geocontrol to do your roads. I hear geocontrol has a good road tool, but never tried it.

Re: [HELP] Editor Road issues
Try doing it with no statics on the map, to save on memory, etc. Just rename your "staticobjects.con" to something like "staticobjects-hidden.con". Also, have you tried saving your spline as you want it and then restarting editor so that when you apply the spline, you're doing it on a fresh restart?sylent/shooter wrote:well I tried both of the ways suggested here and neither of them worked. Re: [Help] Editor Road issues
Well I'm running XP, and yes I am saving the spline, without it touching any terrain. Then saving that without changing the terrain settings. Then opening the editor, going back and applying the spline. I will try the static objects. If I rename it to ''''''_hidden will that just stop the editor from loading it?
EDIT: So basically I think that it has something to do with the amount of resources available to the editor from my computer. Could it be my lack of mem? (2GB DDR2) lol

dude I run 2 gigs of DDR1 and I had this issue only once so its not a memory thing (unless you like multitasking alot while mapping)

FIGURED IT OUT
haha thanks to everyone who helped.
What you have to do (tested 10 times worked every time)
1. go to "Render" and uncheck everything except terrain and splines and roads and particles.
2. Disregard the viewing options in the render tab (I keep it on normal, and make sure it's in detail texture mode)
3. Make sure the splines are slightly raised above the terrain
4. Click apply spline (must select the whole road in question)
5. If you find the terrain isn't exactly outlining the road, make the road width larger. I picked 15-20. Apply those splines, then disconnect and use the normal sized road to connect it again.

Re: [Help] Editor Road issues
Sounds like it was a memory problem then. So anything you can do to free up memory (such as not loading staticobjects, OG, etc.) would help. You could even set up your editor so it views a smaller distance, thus having less in memory.
Happy splining.

Re: [Help] Editor Road issues
ye, having to turn off lots of stuff in the render menu sounds like you just needed to free up more memory.
Remember that even if your on a 64bit system and you have more than 3gbs of ram, the BF2 editor (and BF2 itself) is only a 32bit App and as such, can only use 3gbs of ram maximum, even if your system has 8gbs of ram.
