PR Crashing to Desktop?

Post by USNCaseySmith »

So I went to my friends house and put project reality onto his computer and somethings not right. Im going to explain step by step whats happeneing to see if anyone can help me because its a bit complicated.

First off, I put all of the files on two seperate flash drives instead of bringing my cds to install then downloading PR again. I split up the files, I took the BF2 and PR files in the mods folder and put them onto my 8gb flash drive, I tried to take the whole mods folder but it was too large so decided to split those two folders up, then take the xpack folder and the rest of the files and folders put them on a 1gb flash drive. I made sure it all of the folders fit on the flash drives.

So once I got to his house I copied all the files onto his computer into the C drive (I took the BF2, PR, and Xpack folders and put them into a mods folder so that it would be the same again

So once I booted it up, everything worked fine, then I go to join a match, every time I deploy, I get a crash to desktop. So I check my video settings, and theyre fine. Then out of curiousity, I create a local match in PR and start it. It boots up and I jump in game and it plays fine. So basically, every time I try to join an online match I get CTDs. Any ideas why guys??

I don't understand why you brought the bf2 and xpack folders too? if he has bf2 on his computer then he already has those folders.

we need information regarding his computer, operating system, hardware etc.

but tbh sounds like there has been an error in the data transfer, resulting in the server thinking you don't have certain files, when that happens the program CTDs, which is why it still works in local.

if I were you I'd get the PR installers you downloaded, and take them to his house, remove PR and reinstall.

no he didnt have BF2 on his computer, I just too lazy to install Bf2 then re download PR onto his computer, so I just packed them all up onto the flash drive.

, but his computer sure can run it. It has just as much ram as me a better graphics card, faster internet, and the motherboard doesn tie it down at all. The way I put it is, I have Silent Hunter 3 with a ton of mods on my computer, I get at best 30 Fps, at worst 15, his compuer cruises along smoothly with thesame exact game on 40 fps.

erm...I don't think BF2 will take kindly to direct transfer like that... for example is punkbuster working correctly? I seriously doubt the game is going to function correctly in this state.

This, most likely, is your problem. As Rudd says you'd have been better off using the installers rather than just trying to copy the files over, especially if you've had to split them.

The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end... "
