Gunship rocket calibers
Well then i was going to make a suggestion but i wanted to make for sure about the explosive destruction of the rockets are the same or different already. It seems to me that all rockets in PR/BF2 do about the same damage and the same AOE on impact.
So my question is does the
Hydra 70 (69.85mm, 2.75 inch rocket) (Mounted on all US gunship chopper variants)
Do the same damage and AOE as for instance the
S-8 rocket (80mm, 3.1 inch rocket) (Mounted on the MI-28 russia)
or the
Sneb (68mm, 2.68 inch rocket) (Mounted on the German Tiger)
or the
S-5 rocket (55mm, 2.2 inch rocket) (Not sure if it is still in PR there was a name misshap on the SU-25 that i reported about the S-5's on the SU-25 being S-8's)
Also if there is different types added into PR like the S-8KOM HEAT) vs the S-8BM (Penetrating), or the hydra 70 m151 (HEDP) vs the Hydra 70 m247 (HEAT/HEDP).
Just curious about that i did not do extensive testing on this but it seems the blast radius is the same for hydra 70's as the S-8's.

well since the hydra and S-8 are meant to be counter parts is obvious that they same specs.Alucard wrote:Well then i was going to make a suggestion but i wanted to make for sure about the explosive destruction of the rockets are the same or different already. though the havok is carrying 2x 32 of them and the apache only... 2x 19? ...
i think something has to be done to keep the helicopters balanced.... i think of the xmas map Tiger vs Havoc... ridiculous.
but since all the choppers still same targeting systems ... there cant be done much imo.

That's the tough shit of life. Guess the Russians decided that helos are supposed to carry A LOT of rockets and missles.

I think some difference was added in game, though its probably not noticeable so much actually in game.
"Today's forecast calls for 30mm HE rain with a slight chance of hellfires"
"oh, they're fire and forget all right...they're fired then they forget where the target is"

Re: Gunship rocket calibers
If you ask me its project reality not balance but then again if that were true Havoc's would not have anti air missiles.... and we'd have MI-8HIP-H's for the russians MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA 128 S-5's ftw anyways if you take a look at the blast radius i don't have the two videos anymore that i had to compare them when i thought this up the S-8 has probably a 20-30% larger blast radius then the Hydra 70.Zoddom wrote:well since the hydra and S-8 are meant to be counter parts is obvious that they same specs.

Im not sure ... if you can believe the Lock On payload editor they cant ...Wakain wrote:I thought havoc's were able to carry igla's
however the 9m114 shturm-v cant be used against enemy aircraft, the 9a4172 vikhr can be if im right.

They do. His statement is hazy at best.Wakain wrote:I thought havoc's were able to carry igla's
Rocket damage is OK and balanced because of number of them.

Sure Havocs can carry Iglas or even R-73's on their hardpoints, but every missile or rack will take away from the air to ground ordnance. If I understand correctly, A-A missiles are being finally removed from the helos in a coming patch.

I would love that tbh. Some real chopper dogfights without the missles would be pretty sickSaarna wrote:Sure Havocs can carry Iglas or even R-73's on their hardpoints, but every missile or rack will take away from the air to ground ordnance. plus, it would get the team to rely on ground based AA more

But the side hardpoints on Apaches can only mound Sidewinders, they're not taking away from anything. Why the hell would you remove them, especially if the sidewinder is standard equipment.

Re: Gunship rocket calibers
You can probably imagine an Apache with a realistic loadout of four Stingers would be pretty hard to balance with helos that will have none, at least until alternate loadouts with AAM's can be produced. Without a hefty increase in either AA or air superiority assets on the opfor side it wouldn't be so much asymmetrical balance as an imbalance.Tirak wrote:But the side hardpoints on Apaches can only mound Sidewinders, they're not taking away from anything. An Apache with 38 FFAR's, 8 Hellfires and the four Stingers up against say a Havoc with 16 Atakas and four Iglas would be another matter altogether.

Re: Gunship rocket calibers
I never said that havocs couldn't carry AA missiles i merely meant you need to take off one of the hardpointed ground rockets to put them on. What i meant was is they don't mound the on the side of the helo as they are in PR. I'm not interested in balance purposes of the rockets i'm interested if they are the explosion radius and damage.
