is a 3rd party mortar calculator a hack ?
I've been reading about a third party program that allows very accurate mortar fire as well as pre-battle designation of targets.
Is this considered a hack since it is not available to the general public ?

it knows where the enemy is before the game?...pre-battle designation of targets.

I beleive he means areas in which the enemy may come to, pre calculates whatever you need to hit that area so you are prepared in advance to hit that area without the need for test shots

Cheating in the same way that using a calculator when you could use mental arithmatic is cheating?
It's not.
It's not.

The program reads, as far as I understood, your ingame-position and then instantly gives you the distance to any point on the map. I do think that's unfair.
If it didn't read any ingame positions, it'd indeed just be the same as preparing yourself for the battle by pre-calculating a few positions from your EXPECTED mortar coordinates. But if the program can do that while the round is running, it allows for much more effective mortaring, and I would consider it cheating.

It doesn't, you need to set both firing and target location. It does however read the hightmaps to calculate the hight difference between those two positions quite accurately.Spec_Operator wrote:The program reads, as far as I understood, your ingame-position and then instantly gives you the distance to any point on the map. thats pretty much the best point of the program
because it can be pretty hard to get this information ingame without a good spotter, because mostly its just "mortar got target for you in A7kp9" no more info because people in most cases already got killed, because they dont think of calling in support before going in (buts thats another story

I didn't know it drew data from inside the game while it was running.
Then it is a hack, no question about it.

In the strictest sense, the program is not hacking. It doesn't need to hook PR or BF2 and it isn't infallible.
Poor sportsmanship and a large circumvention of the intent of requiring a spotter (No more guesswork required)? Yes. But whatever works is the rule of thumb I guess.

Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.

Re: is a 3rd party mortar calculator a hack ?
What are we talking about? Which calculator?
I've made a simple Excel Spreadsheet that gives me accuracy to within 8-33 meters with the input of several variables (10, five for each x and y). The stupid part is that I don't know how to convert distance to mils so I still need the calculator... beyond that it gives me everything else.... but no hieghtmaps....
well....
shucks...
Maybe we can include this in the release of the next patch

Re: is a 3rd party mortar calculator a hack ?
It is not hacking at all.. It draws no data from the game. All data calculated must be manually input into the calculator(s).
I have set up 'range tables' for clan matches before, plotting pre-designated targets etc. It is no different to just doing the same thing randomly or by request.

As far as I heard it "gets" the height difference and makes for an accurate first shot. Someone on these forums reported that his shots where always dead on when using the data from that program.
I'm gonna put it on the cheat area for my sake. If it adds an advantage like that without any user input besides the range than It helps the player. Just like an Aimbot helps a player aim.

Re: is a 3rd party mortar calculator a hack ?
I remember this when it first came out. I downloaded thinking mortars would be difficult (ie why someone made a calculator o.o)
I used it once or twice, but you can be much swifter using in-game and still hit within 5-10m or target once you learn the mortar system (which is actually quite easy)
and for targets on the move or if your off thats why there are SPOTTERS.
It draws no data from ingame and is just a calculator with the heightmaps pre-set. No biggy...just like doing it yourself and writing it down or something....OR GUESSTIMATING (best way to do it...as long as you know the metric system...AMERICANS!!!!
)
tho my suggestion for everyone using mortars to learn how to do it ingame because the quicker rounds are out the better, because it took me at least 1 min to put in coords on the program and another 1 min to set up and check with calculations ingame as apposed to ingame where you can do all in about 25 seconds with a good team and have rounds hitting within the min of the call (quickest ive seen is 20 seconds, but the coords were already zero'd in [preregistered fire])
Also i find this kinda useless because there is no actual math involved besides knowing how to break down the lines on the height and direction...
and for cyberzombie the reason aimbot's are illegal is because you always hit....this can still have user error and if you dont have the two points exactly where you want need them you can be off up to 50m on shots (from experience with this program) And now-a-days most fps have built in "aimbots" called aim assist so when you bring your sights up right next to someone it snaps on center mass anyhoo...(obviously PR doesnt, just saying)
