Graphic Problem After Cleaning...

Post by HighHopesRC »

Ok, I never been so desperate for assistance before, I just purchased a High End Alienware M17 about 6 days ago. I installed Project Reality and I played many times with excellent performance, 60+ FPS on MAX settings. But then I got bored and decided to clean the hard drive with Advanced SystemCare, about 50mb in files were permanently deleted, stupid me didn't make a backup, I then went on to play PR again, and I got some pretty annoying graphics problems like the gun twitching, the game lagging, etc. Just like it was on my integrated graphics card before I bought this computer. I tried everything to restore the files with no success. I even did a Complete System Restore back to Factory settings and updated all my drivers, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw I still have the same issues, not only with PR, but Bad Company 2 as well (the mouse delays about one second after I move it, but still maintaining 60+ FPS on high, and this game was working fantastic too before I used Advanced SystemCare). I'm afraid to try my other games, lol (not really laughing). Please if anyone knows what the issue could be here, please help me out. I'll even give my e-mail, its [email protected]. Could it be with Direct X? Or the graphics software? Something to do with my cross-fire? Or even my OS? I currently have 2 Radeon 5870's. :o ops:.

Remind you, my games were working FANTASTIC before I used ASC.
Thank you so much.

First thing I would say to do is try Updating all your drivers, most importantly your video card drivers.

Worst case scenario you might have to just format the computer and reinstall Windows and everything from scratch. No idea what could cause something like this though.

I updated all my drivers and did a Complete System Restore. Still no luck. And I bought this $3,000 computer just so I could play PR. lol

Indeed, those cleaners can sometimes harm more than help. (Just 2 days ago, ran one on my work PC and that thing went from slow to barely usable.) Anyway..

I agree with above - Uninstall your drivers, then reinstall them. Since it is hitting more than one game, you likely don't need to uninstall/reinstall the games themselves.

You running Win 7? I'd question why you are still running those cleaning programs in the first place. 7 isn't XP. and i'm sure saving 50 or 200mb on that machine is a joke against its total storage capacity. Food for thought I suppose.

I'm running windows 7, yes, and you are right, I don't understand why I would use these programs, its beyond me, I just don't know, but I did a complete system restore, wouldn't that have taking care of any problem?

Windows System Restore, while it sounds good, really has never saved anyone that really really wanted it to save them, lol. I've had very little luck with it, perhaps looking into exactly how it works to understand it would be a good idea. However it doesn't really help your situation now.

The reformat suggestion will be your Alamo. But to be honest, if you're able to do it now (backup anything that needs backing up), you might just save time and be back up and running faster. The amount of time you could spend trying this, googling that, adds up. The stress often just isn't worth the hassle. You will probably never have this error again, and not know exactly what you changed that fixed your problem.
Pick your battles.

not really sure what you mean, but like I said i did a COMPLETE SYSTEM RESTORE (to factory setting, out of the box state), shouldnt that have fixed the whole problem?

System Restore is not the same thing as Reformatting. When you format a hard drive it erases everything off of it, even windows itself, and then you install the OS and go from there.

Start your computer and do what ever is necessary to boot from CD, while your CD is in there, at some point you should have a screen that lists your harddrive(s), you want to click on it and I believe the option is something like Format and Install Windows, it has been awhile since I formatted so forgive me if I am wrong.

Its really a mystery that the complet system restore didnt help but I wouldnt settle with anything less then a system restore in you case.

I have used those system optimising tools and they have ruined the OS, stay away from them! If you are unsatisified with the performance do a format and a new install.

Yes, in general a System Restore or a /SLC check only restores essential windows system files and doesn't do anything to 3rd party programs or other files on your system. It's there for if you accidentally somehow delete your wifi service dlls or somehow a system32 file got corrupt, etc.
