Russians use the Ka-52 for sure.

Edit: I've got some video's on my camera I recorded at a Russian Airshow called "Maks 2009"

It shows a Ka-52 flying around the airfield a bit, and loads of other stationary / flying vehicles

oh. well i dont think thats a huge deal. its an ordinance delivery system. as long as its heavily reliant on lased target markers, and its easy to shoot down, then players would take it seriously and not abuse it.

i mean ffs, nearly all the jets are one seaters, this logic fails now that i think about it.

Off the top of my head, way too high poly, far too many textures and many other problems like that, which would mean it would need one hell of an optimization job, which seriously isn't worth it for a chopper which is hardly used in r/l and we have a perfectly good Mi-28 ingame which dose the role of an attack chopper for the Russians just fine, and is used a lot more in r/l than this chopper.

If someone was to optimize it then we may put it in one or two russian maps, as an alternative to the Mi-28 but we are not going to be putting the work in to do it ourselves when we have much higher priority work to be doing, like optimizing stuff which is already in the mod.

No Rhino, you can't put it as an alternative, because it is not being produced and it won't be at all, if it was Ka-52 already done and up to requirements, then we could think about it, but with Ka-50 it doesnt worth a minute of our work.

Let me tell you one thing.IN middle-east region only Iran has 10 Su-25 jets.But Su-25 is in game.So why Ka-50 couldnt be in mod(russians have 15 of them) ?

To put it bluntly, How hard is it to understand? Or would you do the optimisation work? I think the dev-team has more necessary things to do than optimizing a chopper that is hardly in use...

Ye, and unlike the Ka-50, we got a good Su-25 model from USI though BSS which didn't need any optimization and only needed a few coding tweaks :)

The model is REALLY detailed. Too detailed to be ingame in its current state. It would need to be optimized so it can be played with better performance.


And what Rhino is saying, is that it would be too much work to fix the model when it isnt really needed and more work could be done to the mod elsewhere

VapoMan,you play BF2 with this chopper?Because I do.ANd there were no problems with performence on my "stone age" PC.
The biggest problems were with wrong sized HUD textures - they were the reason of desctop crashes on Radion videocards.But it was simple to handle,by gust resizing them.

Let me just say this, this chopper's poly count is somewhere around 80,000 tris where a normal vBF2 chopper is around 6,000 tris and hell my Z-9WA is around 10,000 tris and I think that's really pushing the limits although I plan on doing heavy optimization on the LODs in order to make it good for low gfx users.

Just because it seems to run fine, doesn't mean that it is. Hell this mod runs totally fine on my PC, some code changes I can make on my PC which only change my FPS level by 1 can change another PCs FPS level by 20fps difference, sometimes even more.

If we put this chopper in the mod as it is loads players would crash on loading the map just from running out of memory since we are right on the memory limits on most maps, many people already crash on load on some maps which are not very optimized let alone thinking of making that problem worse.


Testing this chopper on Gulf of Oman with a few bots and only one of these choppers on only one PC without even looking at the FPS, memory levels etc is hardly a tougher test...


In all, this chopper has no place in PR as none of the factions would use this attack chopper heavily and already have a perfectly good attack chopper in there arsenal which serves the purpose of an attack chopper better this one and thous attack choppers are also optimized, unlike this one.

Right now thou I feel like I'm just wasting my breath as w/e I say, even thou I have a huge amount of experience under my belt in this area, but you obviously know more than me about this subject...

Everything has been explained several times and answers were given, just forget about this heli.
And spamming suggestions to PM won't work, don't bother on that front too.
