So basically a guy spots an enemy unit, he looks at his map and trys to figure out their position, then he looks at that positions coordinates, calls them in to the commander, commander finds coordinates and fires artiller into that area, player sits back and watches the fireworks

Coordinating Artillery...
As we all know by now, the commander has the ability to preform artillery strikes, what about aiming it when a squad leader calls in a strike via the commander, now im not sure if this is already in Battlefield, but can Project Reality place grids over players map when they pull them up... So instead of a player saying to the commander... "I need an artillery strike in the field on the upper right corner of the map" First of all, that can be dangerous to friendlies in the area because the field may be large. And at times it can be hard to figure out your enemies positon... So with a grid, the commander may hear something alittle more along these lines... "I need an artillery strike at these coordinates, 10 clicks North, 6.5 clicks East" That will make it more realistic and it should help the commader out when it comes to finding the area for the strike...

We have a pretty powerful idea in the works regarding the integration of snipers as well as airbone units which will work together with the Commander to provide artillery at needed locations possibly using a coordinate system; for now that is all I can say, as we have yet to test its effectiveness (it all works very nicely in theory though
). Not to discourage your thoughts, as all of your ideas are more than valid, and we will look into all suggestions put forward as long as they are within the scope of our ability to recreate them realistically and effectivley.

I hope that instead of the commander being in a semi-god mode and being able to rain artillary and all that good stuff. He should have to follow procedure with his troops. So a scout/sniper/special forces operater would be able to identify a target, and the commander would in turn confirm the target and then OK the strike. Resulting in points for both ends.

Yeah, what Ugly said. I am worried about the semi-god mode too.
I realize that artillery was (is) the most under-used weapons platform in DC/BF1942, but I really hope that the BF2 implementation doesn't go overboard.
If you have a sniper that is able to call in targets at will, that might get a bit much. At least, there should be some delay in-between the time of request from spotter until the shells arrive at target. You wouldn't want a constant barrage over extended periods of time.
I guess balance is the key again.

im not a pub or clan player im a tournament player so i can say from that stand point artillery is one of the most useful tools on the battlefield, thats why im not thrilled with making the arty computer controled (for the most part) i liked the way it was and i know alot of guys that love doing arty and are damm good at it that arent happy about how its set up in BF2

Im with Beckwith on this one, not that I've ever played battlefield, but that'll soon change as I get BFV running... Well back to the topic, it'll be sad to see a good teamwork weapon such as artillery to be taken out from basic gameplay, If PR could put Artillery back into the basic game for everyone to use that would be awsome.

I totally agree with you from the standpoint of a tournament, organized play, artillery wins the battle most of the time.
