Having experienced a massive drop of volunteers for the medic role lately I'm making this thread to give this class the attention that it desperatly needs.

First of all we all know that the medic is one of the more important, if not the most important kit for a successful infantry squad in PR. Being able to resurrect fallen squadmembers is needless to say a very big advantage. Without a medic an infantry squad is pretty much useless if the squad is participating in the frontline battles.

Personally I would like to see more veteran players take more responsibility in showing new comers the effect of a good dedicated medic. A medic that actually makes an effort to stay alive under a firefight so that he may help his squadmembers when the bullet rain has stopped.
Having a medic in a squad that mindlessly charge the enemy as a normal rifleman is almost as useless as not having a medic with your squad at all.

I realise that the medic doesn't get as much into the action as the rest of the squad if he is to be truly dedicated to help his squadmembers and that's one of the main reason why nobody wants to be a medic; "because he doesn't get to kill alot of people".
Even if Project Reality is trying to make teamwork more important than the individual kills, we have to accept that the kills still are very important for the majority of the players.

Medics are often a very frustatring role to play but there are some things that YOU, as a squadmember can do to make this role less frustrating and more fun.

As a squadmember you should never...:

1. Demand medical attention. If you are hurt and want the medic's attention be paitent about it. Don't spam the commo rose or the VOIP about you're dying and going black and white. It is very likely that your medic is helping another squadmember. If you could do a better job pick up the medic kit yourself.

2. Call out for medic if you've died in an open area. Often I see people getting killed by an enemy AR, apc, tank, TOW and starts to call out for a medic straight away. Yes smoke is there for a reason but it's also a dead give away when a wounded body is being covered with smoke. If you get shot; inform the squad about what killed you. If the threat has been taken care of or relocated then call for the medic.

3. Disturb the medic's work. If he's healing another squadmember wait for your turn. There's nothing more annoying than an arrogant ******* that lies himself between the medic bag and the guy that's being healed just to get healed first.

4. Use your ammo bag without asking about the medic's ammo situation first. Unless it's really necessesary for you to grab the ammo for yourself always check if the medic is running out of epipens. Three epipens will not guaranty your squad's survival.

5. Pile up on the medic. Again be patient and try to cover him instead.

6. Give a sh** if the medic goes down. If he goes down the rest of the squad will follow at some point. Get him up as fast as you can. Plus it's the least you can do when he saved your a** right?

7. Not care where you die. If your firefight seems lost pull back and seek cover so the medic has cover when he tries to help you.

There's probably some other points that I've forgotten about but I can't stress enough that the medic's job is about keeping your a** alive so you better treat him right and make his job more easy.

AND TAKE YOUR TURN AS WELL YOU ARROGANT ********!!! ;-)

I find this not to be the case quite a lot. Often, the medic is not paying attention to who is down and trying to get kill.

It's also very rare for a medic from another squad to help out.

Not sure whether i'm naturally bossy, but I have to regularly ask experienced players where they are when they impatiently blurt out 'I need a medic'.

Do us a favour, say 'I need a medic, second floor, by the East window', or similar.

If anyone is leading a squad i'm happy to go medic (preferably not with the Yorkie Bar sized iron-sight on the M-16, but you can't have everything..).


But my gripe is people rudely saying 'hey I need a medic' after thay've run into the open and got shot, as if they find it a personal inconvenience that the medic isn't there in 10secs so they can return fire.

or even better, you as the medic manage to kill the local enemy, use all your smoke to conceal your approach and then find the guy has respawned 45 seconds after dying.

I always play as medic in PR and the PRT, did this in vBF2 as well most of the time. And when I compare PR to the PRT, the key difference is cover. We train on cover->suppress and not the other way around. What happens in public games is people getting shot at by the enemy and immediately returning fire on the spot and getting killed in the open, crying for a medic. Medic is unable to revive due to the enemy moving in or covering the body, even through smoke.

Second, if you are bleeding you could/should move away from the fight and make sure that the medic can heal you in a (relatively) safe spot.

In return the medic should make sure that the situation is under control when reviving and he/she should tell the wounded mate where to go after reviving. The medic has the most important role after the SL and he/she should take his own safety in mind before risking anything like reviving or healing. When the medic goes down, he/she should call medic down!

If the medic is doing all that and the squad stays in cover as much as possible, chances are that you will survive the whole round. That is with proper leadership and tactics as well obviously.

I just can't stand squadmates mindlesly yelling in VOIP: "I need a medic!" I've experienced this problem alot of times, especially when playing in medicless squads. People just don't use the map and squadlist. There's lots of information you can obtain from just pressing CAPS.

Also, I'd like to thank every volunteer medic there is. You are the backbone of teamwork.

the secret is to be a bossy medic, everybody hates you in the end, but they may become better players for it :P , though i hate people that dont understand the game that play medic, medic is a kit for experienced players that dont quite want to SL IMO. i play medic when ever i play PR except with my PRT squad cuz dat medic can medic like a champ *cough* swedensniper *cough*.

People should really think were they get shot i love when people go into the open or do some equally silly thing (like sitting on a roof) then get shot and then take of fence when you tell them that they are in a dumb place.

I like playing medic, I just make people come to me for healing if I can help it. The only downsides are not being able to spawn in with the optional red dot, and the lack of 4x optics for the class. It makes it harder to participate in combat sometimes :(

Thank you for making this thread. Good medics need love.

I've been almost exclusively playing medic since .75.

Tip: Always listen to what your medic has to say (if he's obviously good.) He is usually checking his map more often than the other squaddies, and maybe even more than the SL.

He might also secretly be a rampaging slaughtering beast of a warrior, so never give up when your medic is still alive. This is doubly true when your medic is me and I have an SKS.

On the right-click medic kit note, some of the Taliban maps have a right click medic kit with the AKSU-74 instead of the SKS. It comes in very handy sometimes. Happy healing.

Those are definitely some of the most frustrating things when playing a medic.

Also too often I've had to shout to the group to either stay in the same area (when they spread across a 500 meter area, or to spread out when they practically bump into the squad-leaders *** every time he stops to check the map. Especially on insurgents maps it's more a rule than a exception that at least 2 or 3 members gets taken out with one grenade or ied. trap.

Also some squad-leaders have a strange need to enter rooftops every time they see a ladder which pins you down even more and roof-tops always expose you from pretty much any angle making it impossible to revive anyone. Send 1 expendable guy (sniper or marksman) to the rooftop. Everyone else should stay grounded so they can attack or fall back easily.

Even though i often use the map i also know how frustrating it is when someone asks to be revived when he is in a 10-storey building and he doesn't give a clue which floor he is on.

Also a good way of going down the my "priority" healing list is by looking me in the face when im healing someone (not bothering to cower our asses) Or by complaining that im not fast enough to revive (while under fire and you got yourself killed in the middle of the road)

Also i got a hint to all those who bother to play medics!!!

9/10 times Resuscitate is unnecessary. It is only necessary if the body is stuck on a box or sometimes some stairs. If you really think it is Necessary you might as well drop a Field Dressing on the body, because it gives the same "push" effect. (don't worrie about running out of field dressings you still have unlimited healing with the med-pack)
Then when you use your epipen the guy will instantly pick up your field dressing and he can then run to safety without going black and white.

If you stab a body with an epipen and you hear a strange buzz sound, then it means the guy has given up already so don't waste any more epipens. If there is no sound at all then he is probably stuck and you should drop a field dressing on his body, or you simply missed his torso.

Heal yourself by using the med-pack lien down looking up or standing up looking down.
If you got revived by someone you should stay behind cower for at-least 1 min, since you will stay dead if you get shot down too often.

Here's another tip for newer medics. If you drop a patch on your downed squad member before you revive him with the epipen, he will come up able to see instead of with the black and white/bloody screen. It makes it a lot easier for him to see where to go to get to a safe spot for full healing, as well as giving you a little more of a cushion to get him healed up. He will also be better able to cover you while you heal him.

Also, I think it was mentioned, but I will say it again just in case, give squad members a heading and instructions on where to go when they come up BEFORE YOU STICK THEM WITH THE EPIPEN. For example, "When you come up, go 180 into the alley, get ready," or something along those lines.

Also, give all instructions before you run to their body. This also saves you from trying to revive a guy that already gave up. Spend as little time where they went down as possible. The longer you spend where they went down, the greater the possibility that an enemy grenadier will decide to lob a round or two in just to see what happens.

+1 from me as well. Very good points indeed.
I play as a medic quite frequently and have been in all of the situations which you have described.
It is very frustrating for us medics when the fallen squadmates/teammates do not communicate at all and give up almost immediately when they have been shot. I see this happening every time I play.
