How good is your situational awareness in PR?

Post by Gracler »

I wonder what people think of there own situational awareness in this game?

To explain it in another way, it means how aware you are of whats going on around you!

Thanks for making the poll admin :D

  • Poor awareness: I only know whats going on in-front of myself
  • Less than average awareness: I can tell if I'm nearby my own squad-members etc.
  • Average awareness: I sometimes shoot friendly s that sneak up behind me because i thought it was an enemy but i normally know where friends and enemy's are.
  • Better than average: I can almost tell where things are just by listening to the sound directions and by heavy use of my map. I know if I'm looking at a friend or foe before the "name tag" appear.
  • Great awareness: I never team-kill unless if my friend is doing some stupid thing like running in-front of me while i shoot, but tank or helicopter sounds can trick me.
  • Godlike awareness: I play as if i have eyes in the back of my head and ears like a fox, even if I'm in a tank or helicopter.

Post your comments on what you think is your awareness level.... make up your own if these don't suit you.

Not to be picky, but since there's no Arma :P R yet, this should be in the BF2 :P R section, unless you're referring to Arma instead.

And why don't you make a poll? Should be easier for you.

polls can only be made by admins

but since i don't know about PR:arma2 also i shoot people when they come up behind me if they don't tell me that they are on mumble, otherwise no TK.

Godlike awareness, usually hearing enemies way b4 I see them.. stopping to do "footstep-soundchecks" once a while when im alone.. :P But when im gunning some APC/tank and suddenly spot a TOW/HAT guy looking at me I fire away w/o thinkin and often TK :P

Pretty normal . . . basicaly it depends upon my involment into the game . .. . what i noticed is the more squad mates you have around you the less of a situational awarness you have.

You start to rely on your squad mates to spot enemies and protect you but that isnt always the case somtimes one gets past your bubble of defense and drops a nade right in the mdidle of the group. . then you scramble to find the Medic and you all end up getting shot in the process.

when its one person running around they have a better idea where the enemies are and know which ones to take out when and run to the next spot and have the ability to kill the people who went to find out what happend to their squad mate . . . same situation as before but from the other side of the teams.

sort of an interesting conundrum if you think about it

I normally start with great, briefly rise to Godlike, and then nosedive to completely oblivious as the night wears on, and my bottle of bourbon grows lighter.

Situational Awareness, generally good. Often depends upon how well I'm concentrating.

Like Nebsif, when I'm playing an APC I can become twitchy. People have a habit of poking out of alleyways out of curiousity, wielding their LAT. At this point my check to see if they're friendly goes to poo and I fill them with 30mm. So if you have a LAT and there's an APC nearby, check your map rather than aiming down your sights at me when I turn a corner :)

I always play using a headset so that i can identify which direction the sounds is coming from. I see myself as having a great awareness since i rarely get confused about where i am and where my friends are.

I only have problems when inside armored vehicles. Then it gets really difficult to hear the incoming car's. The Gary and Big red are easy enough to hear though, its just the small "c4" bomb cars that gives me trouble.

I'd rank myself as "better than average". Yeah, accidents (and teamkills) happen, especially if my teammates are using kits stolen from the enemy OR they scare me (the latter usually results in me spraying a whole clip into their face and then spamming the chat with "Sorry!", eheh). Still, I'm always checking the map, observing other squads' movements, trying to figure out where the enemies might be, etc.

Coffee + cookies are a different case however, as they pretty much always get me into Godlike levels. I love it.

Situational awareness is a very broad term to say the least, a lot of things affect it. Your knowledge of the current map and the game in general, how much things you've got on your hands, how much relevant info you're getting how much irrelevant communication there is - to list a few.

I find that when I'm doing my own thing and have to concentrate only to what I and my enemy is doing I become a ninja-like creature leaning to the display and noticing every little crack or puff on the headphones and every little pixel that's not supposed to be there
But as I get more people to coordinate and communicate with - like leading a squad which is usually the case or driving / gunning a vehicle - my personal situational awareness decreases but at the same time awareness of the situation overall increases, there's only that much the brain can process at a time!

God-like .

When leading, 95% of the time i spot enemies first before my squad. I can locate enemies effectively by hearing the shots. I can locate enemies effectively by minimizing where their shot can/cannot come from depending on the impact of the shot. I rarely TK with my rifle. I can spot enemies easily. I can use cover effectively when taking fire by predicting the guys sight lines. i pay attention and know where my squad/team is. I can read terrain well when in a fight to predict where best to move and where the enemy will move etc etc

Of course this is only what i believe, but i would consider myself to have excellent situational awareness both at a basic 1v1 level and team wide level.

^ lol, Sgt. Colbert *Iceman*.
I usually also spot enemies before my entire squad does. I think you just need experience of the game and your SA will increase ;)

Quoted for truth.

Note to self: next time you squadlead appoint a personal situational awareness aid - a guy who always stays near and informs about the details blurred by my lack of brainpower.

When I'm not squadleading my s.a. is good. I still sometimes teamkill when gunning an APC or a tank. But when I'm playing infantry I usually have the time to always check map before engaging. Map has saved many lives.

That all being said, I still seem to be a bit too often the first one of my squad to spot the enemy, whether it be audio or visual cue. :D

I spend far too much time looking at my mini-map. I'm more interested in other people's situation and position more than my own.
