I have a Creative X-fi sound card and 5.1 surround sound headphones.
I'm just curious what sound setting do I put myself on? hardware or software? because the sound is great, but when I'm in a vehicle, there are big differences depending on what side im facing if im in the back of a vehicle. also i get a weird bug where i will randomly hear a vehicle shifting gears even though there are no vehicles near me. But most of the time the sound seems to be great. don't know if these are just small bugs, or if i have my sound set up weird. also have sound on ultra.
Another sound question

Re: Another sound question
For me having it on Ultra gives me random BSODs. Theres a pretty big thread about it somewhere around here.
Im using medium sound settings, but dont remember whether its on software or hardware.

Win 7: Random BSOD
Win XP: Perfectly Fine
Win 7 got rid of directsound, of which X-Fi cards relied heavily on. And creative wrote piss-poor drivers for the damn thing. So... yeah. That's why
I actually have an install of Win XP i still use for PR and PR only. xD and any other game i want "true" surround sound (EAX 5 and stuff
) in. ^_^

Re: Another sound question
Same happened with me (the transmission shifting noise.) While I chalked that up to BF2 (just guessing) I also had issues with the 'snap crackle pop' many complain about.RikiRude wrote:I have a Creative X-fi sound card and 5.1 surround sound headphones.

Win 7, used the PCI-e Card. Yes, Creative writes terrible drivers. I couldn't get it to recognize and work with all my audio programs at the same time (xfire, mumble, TS, Ventrillo, skype). Mumble ended up being the deal breaker, everyone came across sounding like scratchy robots and I apparently sounded like **** as well.
I tried everything, third party drivers, disable this, enable that, no luck. I returned the card, it will be my last purchase of any Creative product. It seems they can't be bothered to write drivers that 'just work' or update more than twice a year. For the cash they expect for their products, this issue rubs me the wrong way.
