I'm a Redditor, and after seeing that thread, I really want to get into PR. I've played BF2 since 2005, own all the Battlefield games, and I'm ready for a new experience and a new community.

Reddit speaks very highly of the Battlefield games, and I can assure you that most of the "stupid" posts are just sarcasm. With every mention of BF2 on Reddit, you'll always get a good discussion on PR along with it.

Anyway, I want to get into a more challenging, team based FPS, and I don't want to play Arma, so here I am. I've got PR and Mumble installed, and I'm ready to start. Where's a good place for a PR noob to get started? Do any of you have a server you'd recommend?

Any help would be appreciated. I'm looking forward to playing with you all.

Once you've read the manual, hop on any coop server and get used to the infantry controls and weapons. Don't bother with vehicles except for trucks/humvees and the like. The only special kit you need to know how to use before playing on a real server is the medic kit, in case you're the only one alive left to revive the squad (but don't volunteer for medic until you've played a bit more, it's an important job even if he doesn't get much of the action). Tell the squad leader that you're new.

Only a few servers have players who regularly use mumble (unfortunately) or require it (PRTA and the 128 player test server). You just need to log on the official PR mumble server and then go in the appropriate server channel and team subchannel.

It should not of been titled "most realistic game ever." It's a Battlefield 2 MOD and the claim is highly arguable because realism in games is measured by many aspects.

The first thing they would of analyzed after reading the title is the graphics and interface, not the coordinated squadplay. Prompting several critical responses that focused on PR's weak points (primarily the age and limitations of the BF2 engine) and not what we actually play it for.

It got a big response but it was messy and confused, provoking unnecessary comparisons to other games and nit-picking of every single conceivably unrealistic element. All detracting from PR's actual appeal and special qualities. Besides using an outdated video and failing to mention the exciting advent of 128 players.

Nothing can be done about certain people claiming things like 'PR has regenerative health' and 'Quake 3 is more teamwork orientated than PR'. But the bold and vague claim of the title would be interpreted as either trolling or plain BS.

PR is not an easy thing to promote by any means, as it carries BF2's dated aesthetics and is uniquely complicated. Also since the name 'Project Reality' is somewhat pretentious the context needs to be explained/disclaimed. However there are great aspects to focus on and appropriate wording can avoid stirring ugly debate.
