Spash to Crash.

Post by Headlamp »

Alright, so PR won't open. I know I'm not the only one with this problem.
It just opens up, I see the slash image for about 30-50 seconds, and then it just disappears and nothing happens. No Error message, nothing.

Now, to get what I've tried out of the way.
Yes my drivers are up to date,
Yes I've installed BF2 and patches up to 1.5 it in the correct order.
No it's not the EA Store download version of BF2
BF2 opens and runs fine.
Yes I'm running it as administrator.
In the PR properties the Target is :"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe"
In the PR properties the start in is:"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\"
I've tried running it in every compatibility mode possible.
I've tried re-installing both PR and BF2.
I've tried a fix that one of the mods here cooked up that involves bat files.
I've tried deleting the BF2 folder in My Documents.
My specs are above and beyond what the minimum requirements are.
I've tried checking and unchecking every box in the compatibility tab in properties.
I've tried opening up BF2 and then quiting and opening PR. Even tried it without closing BF2.
My roommate and I used the EXACT same files and method to install both BF2 and PR and his is working fine, which just exacerbates my rage.

Come on guys, I want to fucking play this game. :(

I have no mods running. No antivirus. and Firewall is turned off. Also, I have BF2 and PR allowed in my firewall just in case.

Headlamp's roommate here, I just checked in to say two things:

1: I installed PR after a fresh install of BF2 and everything runs tightly. Every so often I get a weird little bug where I can't choose a squad, but applying for commander then rejecting the invitation fixes that.

2: Project Reality is so much fun holy shit. Big props to my boy Deathtrap1986 - we really showed Fallujah who was boss, eh?

You can start PR in windowed mode and hopefully see an error when it crashes
Here are instructions for windowed mode:

Here is Jaymz's post about how to run in windowed mode:
Jaymz wrote:So here's how you, forum goers, can help. The simplest way to find a cause for a CTD error is to run PR in windowed mode. In the vast majority of cases, when a CTD occurs, anyone playing in windowed mode will get an error message upon crash which will contain the details of what has caused the crash.

All you have to do is just play PR! Granted it's windowed mode, but just play like you would normally.

So here's the steps required,

1. Run PR in windowed mode,
right click your PR shortcut and go to properties
In the Target section, add a space and then "+fullscreen 0" (if it's already there and set to 1, just set it to 0)
To switch back to full screen, just set it to 1 instead of 0

2. Play PR!!!

3. If you get a CTD and an error message pops up,
Press "Ctrl+C" to copy the error message
Alternatively, you can hit "print screen" and upload the image of the CTD + error window for us.
Best line yet...
Me: "Hey APC, Can I get a ride to squad 6?"
Unknown: "This APC ain't no Taxi!"

Hmmm VERY interesting. Try checking to see if the game files are severly fragmented. Also, turn down your video settings in C:\Users\Headlamp\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles
Check the Default profile specifically. additionally, you may check event viewer and see if it logged the application crash.
evntvwr.msc in start menu
