Look in your Profiles folder for the sound.con file.

Here's my audio.con file fwiw...

Also very important is the creative driver version you are using... :)

Cheers..

btw Alchemy also works, but only the latest version, file name is ALMY_PCAPP_BETA_LB_1_43_06
Any earlier version will not work ;)

Are u guys using Xram?
Hi I am having the same problem. However I have the line "rem Sound.setTemplateLevel HIGH" NOT "rem Sound.setTemplateLevel ULTRA HIGH", although I have set this ingame to Ultra High.

I have the X-Fi Titanium - Fatal1ty Professional Serie (PCIe x1) card.

What's going on here?

I still BSOD, after you do the steps you will get a good day of playing but the next day it will give me my normal crash 1 round fine crash in the first minuet of play in the next round **update 04-16-11

Ok I think I have fixed mine.

First what I have:
Win 7 64
PCIe X-FI Titanium

Drivers:
PAX PCIe Titanium ALL OS Driver V3.30Beta4
PAX MASTER Suite V2.00

I read this whole thread again to see if there was any fixes I did not try yet. I also think like illidur said its not one BSOD its multiple BSOD. I think that the PAX drivers fixed one of the BSOD but with just the PAX drivers alone I would still BSOD after 1 map played. I did find a few things that I have tried before and some stuff I have not tried. I did a combination of fixes that seems to be working. So here is what I did.

Noobinator said to change the max channels in your sound.con from 64 to 62 so I did that. Your sound.con is in your
C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\Profiles\Local\Default\Sound.con for 64bit
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\Profiles\Local\Default\Sound.con for 32bit

I also notice that my Sound.con did not look like the one he posted so I changed mine to look like his, this is what mine looks like now:
Sound.con

Code: Select all

rem *** 3D settings ***
Sound.setDopplerFactor 1
Sound.setRolloffFactor 1
Sound.setDistanceFactor 1

rem *** Performance settings ***
Sound.setPitchChangeRate 15

rem Sound.setTemplateLevel UltraHigh

rem *** Generated ***

game.setDisableSound 0
game.setChannels 62
game.setMasterVolume 75
game.setMenuMusicVolume 50
game.setMusicOnOff 1
game.setLocalizedDialog 0
game.setQuality 3
game.setSoundDetail 4
game.setHardware 1
I also added 2 lines to my audio.con
Your audio.con is in your
C:\Users\YourName\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001\Audio.con

Here is what mine looks like now:
Audio.con New Text AudioSettings.setAlwaysAllowSystemOpenAL 1, AudioSettings.setForceNumberOfVoices 128

Code: Select all

AudioSettings.setVoipEnabled 1
AudioSettings.setVoipPlaybackVolume 1
AudioSettings.setVoipCaptureVolume 1
AudioSettings.setVoipCaptureThreshold 0
AudioSettings.setVoipBoostEnabled 1
AudioSettings.setVoipUsePushToTalk 1
AudioSettings.setProvider "creative"
AudioSettings.setSoundQuality "UltraHigh"
AudioSettings.setEffectsVolume 1
AudioSettings.setMusicVolume 0
AudioSettings.setHelpVoiceVolume 1
AudioSettings.setEnglishOnlyVoices 0
AudioSettings.setEnableEAX 1
AudioSettings.setAlwaysAllowSystemOpenAL 1
AudioSettings.setForceNumberOfVoices 128
Then I did what illidur said to to change your BF2OpenAL.dll with your wrap_oal.dll so that battlefield 2 uses updated version of openAL.

First you want to backup your old BF2OpenAL.dll in your
C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2OpenAL.dll for 64bit
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2OpenAL.dll for 32bit

Then you want to copy your wrap_oal.dll from your system folder
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\wrap_oal.dll for 64bit
C:\Windows\System32\wrap_oal.dll for 32bit
in to your Battlefield 2 folder
C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2 for 64bit
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2 for 32bit
rename it to BF2OpenAL.dll
right click on BF2OpenAL.dll go to properties check Read-only at the bottom **updated 04/15/11**
BF2OpenAL.dll is getting overwritten to default causing BSOD(I believe) so marking Read-only will stop this from happening.

I have never heard of or done the changing of the max channels in sound.con.
I have added "AudioSettings.setAlwaysAllowSystemOpenAL 1, AudioSettings.setForceNumberOfVoices 128" to my Audio.con before but on a different sound card.
I have replaced the BF2OpenAL.dll before and still got BSOD.

I dont know what one fixed it, it could be a combination of all three and the drivers, like I said I think it is multiple BSOD. I have loaded into 5 different maps over one sitting, played about 4 hours with 3 map changes and not had one BSOD.

I hope this helps.

Please post if this has worked for you.

Just FYI in my Reg my XRam is not disabled but I dont think PCIe X-FI Titanium has XRam so you if this fix does not work for you you might want to also disable XRam.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Creative Tech\Driver\PCI&VEN_1102&DEV_0005]
"DisableXRAM"="1"

I still BSOD, after you do the steps you will get a good day of playing but the next day it will give me my normal crash 1 round fine crash in the first minuet of play in the next round **update 04-16-11

Did all of the above ^

Got the usual BSOD when I did it without disabling the XRAM on the first map I loaded. When I disabled the X-RAM I was able to load 3 maps in a row but then I got a the usual BSOD when loading the 4th map. So unfortunately it doesn't seem to have fixed it =(

I usually get BSOD, crash or artifacts much faster when the card is processing at 24bit 96kHz. Try to set both speakers and spdif sample rate and bit depth to 16bit 48kHz. 3 maps in a row is a good result already. This number might increase if you Alt-Tab to desktop and back after 2 maps.

Sad to see that the game has problems with the card , more like the card has problems with the game since creative sucks with their horrible driver support... i bought a Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion Series 3 days ago and installed it yesterday , took me 3 hours to get the drivers working. anyhow my game also BSOD'd after loading a map for the next round in PR , im running on the 2.0 PAX Master Suite . for some reason the titanium drivers wouldn't install on my system , they just kept asking for the next disk or something like that..

anyhow , did we find a fix for this? im running on Windows 7 64-bit with the above sound card.

Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty PCI-E.

@Fatal-M unfortunately this problem is on going. If you're desperate for the extra sound quality your x-fi soundcard should provide you with then your best bet is to install win xp on a seperate partition/hdd and run pr on that since it works fine with xp. When I finally have the time to start playing games properly again that's what I'll be doing, unless creative provides a solution in the meantime.

Thanks for getting back to me on this Dr Rank. Seems like thats always the other best option to fix anything these days, ive always been a fan of XP but i dont think ill dual boot just for audio, thanks for posting a working solution tho :)

Just sharing my thoughts on this , when i installed the drivers and software from the CD i had more features in the console like DTS options , but after i installed the PAX drivers and Suite i lost a few features in there.. i honestly feel that the sound sometimes works and sometimes it doesn't with this guys drivers , i know its only modded creative drivers but seems like even PAX has problems that he cant fix..

Any Idea's for the best software and driver installation? and should we go with PAX or creative and update them?

I had a BSOD today went back to check all of my steps to make sure they were still modified to my steps. I found that the BF2OpenAL.dll which is really the wrap_oal.dll had been reset to default which is the original BF2OpenAL.dll. I'm not sure if this got reset with computer being restarted or after the BSOD or if the dll being reset was the cause of the BSOD. So what I did was recopy the wrap_oal.dll and rename it BF2OpenAL.dll then I made it read only so it can not be overwritten again. So please any one who tried my steps and did not have success please try again with the read only BF2OpenAL.dll. I got 3 separate long sessions(3 maps per session) of PR in after doing the steps until I got my first BSOD so if your getting a BSOD after 1 map or a short session it could be a different problem.

On anther note I just got an email from creative today that says they have a new beta driver out for titanium cards here is the info I got:
Announcement
Welcome!

Below are some important information about this driver:

This driver is for Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium series.

Changes/ Improvements:
1. May resolved Blue Screen of Death issue with GroundWiz RTS Demo and Benchmark tool.
2. May resolved Blue Screen of Death issue with Games such as, Project Reality and Stalker etc.

Please go ahead and explore the driver and use it in every scenario that you always do when listening to music, watching movies and playing your favourite games.

Please click on the link to download the beta driver.

We look forward to your feedback!

The Sound Blaster Team
I will be testing new drivers and posting any news, I can not give out the link for others to test because you need a password to login to creative site, but if any one wants to try it I can upload it to a third party site for download let me know.

I almost broke my sound card today , i never had to worry about audio problems up untill i bought this *******. its a really good sound card but the drivers are just terrible , i removed PAX's suite and drivers and tried to install the updated console and drivers from creative but that just turned off the front panel and shut it down completely -_- after an hour of working around i just restored back to an earlier state to only bring out more problems with my mic device in Windows.. this is just horrible!

im most likely gonna do a format tomorrow , i need it anyways so i'm need of some help , should i re-use PAX or try creative? i mean whats the best option? and whats the process for installing it right?

First day of Creative Beta Drivers Played 2 full maps and stayed for 20 mins messing around in the third no BSOD yet. I also think that the drivers sound allot better then the PAX ones I was using. Tomorrow is the real test seeing how in the past any modifying files or drivers you seem to get one good day out of it then BSOD next day. Ill keep you updated.

Remember if any one wants a copy of the Creative Beta Drivers for Titaniums let me know and I will upload it.

Was this the beta X-Fi Ti driver released on 4/15 that supposedly fixes the BSOD problem? Because if so :-(

Edit: Ah yes, didn't read up far enough in the thread. :-( indeed

From what I understand about the February drivers, the only fix included in that update was for the long shutdown times people were complaining about.

I have been running the beta drivers I got from creative alone with no software except Audio Control Panel to switch my flex port. So far no BSOD in 2 days of playing, but the sound does not sound as good or directional with out the Console launcher.

I'm going to keep testing the beta drivers.
