1sec Freezes

Hi there

I got a problem, PR works great, but just one thing does not work well. When i play online i get all the time (every 1min) e very short Freez, it looks like laag, but my ping is 15.

i dont know why does some one has an idea? Error log does say nothing
I have earlyer played Pr on my pc, so that should not be the problem, but never on Win7

Operating system = XP, Vista etc.
systems specks = cpu/speed, ram installed, video card/video ram on card,type of monitor
network setup = cable, 4 port 10/100/1000 d- link gamers lounge/ wired connection.
And a brief history before and after problem started.
Please describe when your CTD or problem hits and
what you have already tried.
The more info you can give the better your chance of getting a quick answer back.

Thx for the Answer, i did search but did not find one with the same Problem. But as i figured out, i did not search clear.

I will try the fallowing thins (found in the forum)
- Defrag my Partion
- Put AA from 8x to 4x
- Set Graphic Lower
- Update all my drivers

When it not will work, i will post it here with more information.
Is there a place where i can activate a DEBUGG Modus for PR? Because i dont get any errors in the Logfile.

One thin i saw is that PR doest not work with Quad Core is that rigt? Because my 1 Core is on 90% and the other 3 are on 5%.
I have 8GB Memory, but i think PR can not allocate 8GB or?

You can run PR in 'window' mode. This lets you see any error messages that may come up.
To run in window mode, right click on PR shortcut.
Choose 'properties' from bottom of popup list.
Under the 'shortcut' tab you will see the 'target' window with something like this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" start +fullscreen 1 +szx 1024 +szy 768 +restart

Change the '1' after fullscreen to '0' to look like this:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" start +fullscreen 0 +szx 1024 +szy 768 +restart

PR will run under multiple cpu/cores but the app itself isn't multi-threaded so it really can't take advantage of the extra cpu/cores effectively. It is better to set the AFFINITY for the game to something other than what the o/s is running on like 2,3 or 4. Doing so forces the game to only use that cpu/core.
I believe you can use the task manager to do it or by way of your shortcut.

Mutli core/processor causing errors
If you have more than one cpu or 'core' you can set the 'affinity'(force the game to run on one cpu or core only) through your shortcut by adding
AFFINITY 2
to your shortcuts 'target' string like this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" start /AFFINITY 2 +fullscreen 1
Your shortcut can do more. I use:
start +widescreen 1 +szx 1600 +szy 1200 +restart +playerName xxxx +playerPassword xxxx

Replace XXXX with your user name and password

Adding this string bypasses the startup video, logs you in and takes you directly to the server browser.

Hm nothin works, in Windows mode, i do get very bad crapic errors. and the 1sec freez is still there. i did deactivate my virus programm, did also not help.

I have the digital version of BF2, but there is no difference or? i had the CD version, but i did not found it any more, so i habe bought it on the EA store.

Here my information PC
Windows 7 64Bit
Intel Core Quad Q6700 2.66GHz
8GB Ram
Nvidia GTX285

The only thin i saw is that BF takes 2GB Ram (allocate) and i did use almost the 2GB 1950 was it i think. Looks like he comes to the limit.
I dont have a chance to start BF2 PR so it can use more then 2GB Memory or?

I did set all graphic setting to low, did also not help.
Is it normal on Win7 when i close the game, i get a Windows Error Sound, but no message

Hm i saw a topic about virtual memmory and the paging file. then i saw on my computer, which has a Raid 0 and a Raid 1. That on the Raid i have installed BF2 and RP, i have no virtual memmoy.
I habe one on my primari partion 8GB but it say it recomends 12GB.

I will try some thins out, hope i dont kill my OS

Hm i dont figure out why i get this freezes. I almost tryed everything out.
No i will try to install BF2 and PR on my primari Partion where the OS is installed.

Im not realy sure, but i think it's a little bit better, when i say that PR shuld be run as a Windows XP Programm. But it is just e feeling.

W7 doesn't need to run PR under a compatibility setting. Set up a small bit of VM on a different partisan from your O/S..yes I know you have 8 gigs but it's Windows. Set it for whatever the system wants. Set min and max the same. OR get a super fast USB thumb drive rated for 'ready boost' (2-4 gig is good).

I have installed BF2 and PR compleatly new, now on my primary partion. Did also not help, no i will try to set the virtual memory for this partions to the 1.5 x the memory i have. should be 12GB. Will try that too that i set samllest and bigest to 12GB.

Hope it works, if not.. hmm i guess i have to play medic for me hole life because of the freezes i almost never kill one

1.5 x real ram is just a rule of thumb. Try setting VR to 512Mb or 1 gig.
Test with 'system managed' as well.

Hm now that i dont understand.
I dont need 1.5 x of my real memory for PR?
But is it better if i have so much, or should i set it ti 1GB for better performance?

We're talking about Virtual ram not real ram. Virtual ram kicks in when the system is getting low on real ram. The system writes data to the hard drive (super slow compared to real ram) This can help systems with lower ram during massive data loads ( like map changes). In general we want to avoid this, as it can slow down performance, but a little dip in performance is still better than a crash on systems with smaller ram totals.
So much of the Windows O/S hasn't changed since the days when VR was really needed, that many believe it is still advisable to give the O/S a little VR room (on a different hard drive than the O/S is on if possible ). A fast USB2 thumb drive can work well. Many have faster read times than older IDE drives and being flash the "seek' time is nill ( two milliseconds or less compared to 8-10 for Hard drive)

Other things you can try:
Since you have a multi-core have you tried setting the 'affinity' of the game (force the game to run on one cpu or core only) through the task Manager' or your PR shortcut.
I believe you can do it by adding

hm i have no idea why it does not work well. i did try almost everythin out, but nothing helps. i still geht 1sec freezes all the time.
Dont know all other games are working well, just PR does not doing well.
I will no try if BF2 works or if it has also this little freezes. I figured out, that i have to play APC driver or gunner, till i get the problem fixed. Quiet booring if i should run over a street, the get the freez and at the time i look somewhere just not there wehre i wanted to run.

I guess im the only one the has this problem? i cant fix it have re-installed the hole game, and still got the problems of 1sec freezes.

Maybe some bf2 setting got corrupted. I suggest "Reset to Defaults" for your ingame options. Alternatively you could be more thorough and delete the "Battlefield 2" folder from "My Documents" (not the one from "Program Files"!).

Also: Can you please check if when using "renderer.drawfps 1" in console the FPS are updated (upper left corner) during the freez, or are those numbers frozen as well?
This will tell you if you are actually having performance issues or networking issues.
