I kinda read the manual and I still don't get the gist of the game. I know like you're supposed to find ammo caches and to destroy them. But when I join a squad I hear people saying build a fob or defend the fob.
What's a fob?
Then there's the don't spawn on unknown and don't drive over the unknown? What's the unknown and why can't I drive over it.
Also is there a helicopter flying guide? I'm decent at flying choppers in BF2 to transport troops but right when I get off the air I start leaning to the left and then I crash.
Is there a point to restraints? If I'm in a humvee or the insurgent truck with a machine gun since the ironsights aren't dead middle where should I aim, is it like the farther the target the lower I aim? What should I aim based off of?
How do I dig with the shovel? I know it's used to build like mortar places but what else? How do you build things?
Is the ammo cache where you can change your kit? Or is it the place with the netting over it?
Is there a list where I can choose what enemy contact I see? All I see is Enemy Contact.
If I'm a medic how do I tell whether I need to use resuscitate or epipen?
I can't remember all my questions but this is most of them. Are there also any other basic or vital information I need to know to get the most out of this game?

I'm not trying to be rude, but 75% of the questions you asked are answered in the manual...randeDANDE wrote:I kinda read the manual

Forward Operation base- you can spawn on it and build mortars and defenses within a radius of it.
Then there's the don't spawn on unknown and don't drive over the unknown? What's the unknown and why can't I drive over it.
Unknowns are the purple shields on the map as insurgents. That means that the Blurfor doesn't know were they are and they need to kill/ capture your team to get enough points to make it know. it. You don't want to drive or be by them ( especially with a RPG kit, because they spawn there). Because if guys from the other team see you they will most likely start looking around there and you could loose the cache.
Also is there a helicopter flying guide? I'm decent at flying choppers in BF2 to transport troops but right when I get off the air I start leaning to the left and then I crash.
Let it warm up first, you can tell by the sound of the engine/rotors when it starts to beat steady, but I would just wait a goo 30-45 seconds. *AND DO NO TRY TO FLY ON A PUBLIC SERVER WITH PEOPLE IN IT). Practice on a local server or a Co-op one until you can do it.
Is there a point to restraints? If I'm in a humvee or the insurgent truck with a machine gun since the ironsights aren't dead middle where should I aim, is it like the farther the target the lower I aim? What should I aim based off of?
Restraints are for capturing insurgents, its pretty much a kife.
Hit the "C" button, that should have you aim down the sites. Unless your in the little gun in the passenger seat in some light vehicles, those don't have any. If "C" doesn't work try the X button.
How do I dig with the shovel? I know it's used to build like mortar places but what else? How do you build things?
Get it out like a weapon, point it at the sand where you need to build, and old down fire.
Is the ammo cache where you can change your kit? Or is it the place with the netting over it?
Cache are where you can pickup kits as insurgents, as blufor where you request kit with the net(Or just a crate dropped by a Truck or Trans,Has your teams flag on it), they are normally just called crates.
Is there a list where I can choose what enemy contact I see? All I see is Enemy Contact.
Nor really sure while not playing but I think you have to have Binocs( Or Radio?) out. Someone else can help you here

Really you only have to use resuscitate if the bodies of the person is tuck, like propped against a wall or in a weird ditch. Your going to always have to use Epipen though, resuscitate wont revive anyone.
I just looked through the manual, and 7/8 of the questions you just asked were in their.( didn't look for the contact one)
So please look through that again, most of it was on pg 10 and 38, and only took me a few minutes to look at the table of contents and find it.

Thanks for the help and sorry I did try to go through the manual but some parts were kind of hard for me to understand. I haven't played even BF2 in a while so I forgot some VERY basic things. But thanks for the help!

Re: Help a newbie out?
I understand, I read through the manual the first time and much of it flew over my head including some of the things you missed. However do try and go through again, get used to shooting, grenade throwing, etc while playing single player and then play online as a basic rifleman. Much of what you will learn will only come from observing others and a helpful squad.randeDANDE wrote:Thanks for the help and sorry I did try to go through the manual but some parts were kind of hard for me to understand. I have played for what must be well have 100 hours and I still feel like I have a ton to learn.
Good luck and have fun.

Don't hesitate to tell your squad leader that you are new and willing to learn. A good SL will help you out =)
As gaurd502 already answered your questions, I won't repeat what he said again, but if you have any more questions or if anything is still unclear, feel free to post here, we're happy to help!

Re: Help a newbie out?
If you like you can send me a pm and ill be happy to go through things in-game if you like. For some people its easier to learn by practicing it rather than reading a big manual.randeDANDE wrote:I kinda read the manual and I still don't get the gist of the game. I know everything you need to know in order to be a good PR player. Ive been playing it for years.
If anyone else reads this and wants some instructions in-game feel free to pm me as-well. You don't have to be a new PR player, i often explain things to some more advanced players too, who seems to have forgotten how the system works
Please add in-game nickname, what time suits you best (including timezone) and what kind of instructions your looking for.

Re: Help a newbie out?
1. Yes, they are used to "arrest" civilians. When you arrest civilians in Insurgency mode, you get a good amount of points which can help in unlocking the next ammo cache location.randeDANDE wrote:

2. Just press 2 to equip it and get as close as possible the sand deployed by your squad leader and hold the fire button. You can only build deployable objects that are deployed by Squad leaders, like a Firebase, Mortar, etc...
3. An ammo cache is only found in Insurgency mode, it some kind of object that looks like ammo on top of each other that the insurgent team are supposed to defend while the Bluefor team are supposed to destroy. It's locations will be hidden in the beginning of the round, so the Bluefor team has to kill insurgents and arrest them in order to unlock it's location. Only 3 out of 7 at a time can be found.
4. No, only the squad leader has that list.

As stated above. Not "kinda" read the manual, make a cup of tea and take your time.

Re: Help a newbie out?
What I did when I was learning the game was I kept the manual open while playing the game and if I got stuck on how to do something while playing I Alt-Tabbed out and looked up what I wanted to know how to do in the manual, then went back in game and tried it. Also I asked the squad I was in to help me out, and they never let me down. Sometimes I watched a few Youtube PR gameplay videos and learned a bit from them.
Also, get a mic as soon as possible if you don't have one, but if you have to type be sure to type often so that people know you're there and paying attention. People will usually treat you about the same as a player that has a mic if you just type frequently.
