[Video] Murkey's Squad Leader Guide

Post by Murkey »

It can be a little frustrating when few people are willing to step forward and lead squads on public servers.

To ease less experienced players into SL'ing I've made a youtube guide detailing everything you would need to know to give it a bash.

They're mostly me talking and footage from pub games. Unfortunately the guide kind of escalated from 1 to 4 videos:

1) Making a squad/Markers/RP's - YouTube - Project Reality Squad Leader Guide Part 1 - Forming Sq's, Sq Markers and Rally Points

2) Placing Fire Bases etc - YouTube - Project Reality Squad Leader Guide Part 2 - Fire Bases and Assets

3) Map Markers/Support/CAS - YouTube - Project Reality Squad Leader Guide Part 3 - Map Markers, Support Requests and CAS

4) Squad Name/Common Rolls/Communications/Misc - YouTube - Project Reality Squad Leader Guide Part 4 - Sq Name, Sq Roles, Extra Comms and Sq management

Any feed back would be appreciated. Cheers ;-)

Unfortunately? The more relevant and practical information that players can use, the better. There is nothing unfortunate about that. I'll check it out when I can. I may look like a ****** for replying but not even bothering to check the videos, but I actually have to go RIGHT NOW!

Also a useful tidbit to include is firebases & assets spawn 5m in front of you when you deploy them, whereas insurgent/hamas/taliban hideouts spawn 10m in front of you.

I agree SL markers are rarely used but the video highlights two of the problems very well:

press Q twice to choose markers on the left or right, if you don't press Q twice you can only mark the ones in the middle
take one step forward or backwards as the markers place where your body is facing NOT where your head/mouse is pointing.

Well done Murkey.

It's hard to imagine that the markers are not used enough. Usually I squad lead and I always use them to increase situational awareness, control squad fire, and give people a marker to rally on. Even when I'm not squad leading, the squads I stay in always use them but then again I usually leave squads that are not communicating or do not use teamwork.

Great work! Lets hope would be squad leaders actually watch these :D .

And yes the Squad Leader Radio is not used efficiently at all anymore. I feel that it is a 'scary' thing to use for those who have no training or are too used to the older versions. However, the radio really makes the difference between the game being about luck and guessing to a tactical showcase.

I really like this kind of videos... I had a plan for a long time to explain everything I know about SLing, but it turned out experience - lots of it - is by far the most important thing for a SL.

Though I've lead squads to being top squad before I gotta say, there's a lot of things in those videos that helped out alot with certain details and questions that are now answered, thanks for the videos.

When I opened up this thread I was expecting a kind of commented ingame footage showing how to bust enemies with proper tactics and a lot of yelling etc.

Kinda made me smile when I saw its just RPs and FOBs! Thanks anyway! :) New guys love videos!
