Commander, Squadleader Kit requests

Post by Wicca »

I have used the search functions. Suggestions where aimed towards veichles or hardcoded things that is unable to be added to the game.

Commander, Squadleader Kit requests

Current Kit system
Today, in 0.95 anyone in a squad can request nearly every kit, it all depends on squad size and number of players in the team. This is based on a python code that counts and keeps track of players and what squad they are in AFAIK.

The only kits grunts cantrequest are the officer kits.

Squadleaders (My suggestion)
Squadleaders should be able to request Marksman, Grenadier, Sniper, HAT, Rifleman AP, Rifleman AT etc.

Since they are the SLs, they should be able to delegate who gets to use what ingame.

Any SM, can spawn in or request the medic, AR, Rifleman and Specialist kit as before.

Commanders (My suggestion)
Commanders should be the only players able to request the Pilot and Crewman kit, to force a team to use that position. COs can not request any other kits. (Cept officer)

Kit request

Anyone who will play PR, will have to ask a SL to assign him a kit for him to use. Rather then the otherway around. In the same way, if an SL wishes to drive veichles or fly planes, he has to ask the CO for a kit.

Anyone not in a squad, is not allowed to use a special kit. (EXCEPT MEDIC AR SPECIALIST RIFLEMAN)

Abuse: CO that has a clan with them, can assign kits only to their "clans" squad.
SLs doesnt have to be "SL", they just make a squad and then wait till it fills, then takes the Snipzor kit and leaves.

Solution to abuse: Both of the above already happens, and Admins that doesnt have to be looking for lonewolfing veichles can ensure that the CO isnt doing something wrong. And people who play regularly in a server, knows what SLs to trust.

If you see something else wrong with my suggestion please say so.

Hmmmm I like the general idea for sure! It would make for less kit abuse. I always lol a bit when I see people complain: But than you'll just be a rifleman! Whats wrong with that? :P

So thats kewl.

Only not sure about the crewman/pilot issued by CO. It will probably make for a more realistic setting (Now you sometimes see someone grab a crewman in the middle of no where) and make people go CO more (I guess).

But it feels a bit like: Can I PLEASE have that mr SL/CO! /begging

I like teh idea of assigning assets, and hopefully once UAV is fixed commander will be popularzor once again as it was at 1st few weeks of 0.95 :P
The whole idea about the kits is 2 hardcore for me, I'd be that noob SL creating a squad to get myself a nice kit...

honestly, I don't like this.

when I'm in game SLing and we're engaging etc etc, the last thing I need is one of my SMs pestering me to come get him a marksman.

same with the commander, if he's sitting there using the UAV with intense VOIP traffic with the relvant squad he's observing, then he doesnt want to have ot run over either.

the commanders 'commend squad' command could perhaps be used to give squad's access to certain kit, but I think thats just an unnecessary layer of logistics.

Sniper should be requestable only by the CO.

Though one question. What happens if there is no CO?

I dont know about you. But i constantly have people in my squads taking HAT kits, sniperkits and Marksman kits. Without myn consent. And without me knowing, and so i usually have people yelling at me in SL Chat for wasting kits. or similar.

If anyone asks me, can i please have a marksman kit. I say no. But that is only my word, and if someone is annoying rudd, cant you just kick him from the squad.

exactly, thats what I do already, I assign my kits to the squad and if they don't obey they get kicked.

I don't want to have to run down and request it myself for him.

Though your idea has merit on the HAT/sniper/engineer (i.e. the rare kit) front.

I like the Idea behind it, but i think that wont work.

Pro:
- This will force Players to go Commander. Maybe that result in better Gameplay.
- No more Kitwhores who joint the Squad, take a Sniperkit and just leaves.

Contra:
- Bad Gameplay. What you gonna do if a APC comes, you are at a crate but can't get a HAT/ or LAT-Kit?
- Players abusing that new System.
- Player doing Commander just making the Team fail.

Hm yeah. I like the rare kit allocation. So only SLs can request HATs, Sniper, AA and Engineer.

I do not see this working out. You will only stress roles that are requiring a lot of input. People will spam, the SL will be more of a dispenser that a leader and to be fair the commander will be even more annoying to play as people come and go asking stuff that is not relevant to the ongoing situation of the battle.

No one is the commander nowadays apart from some rounds on some servers, the reason being that its a lot of responsibility. With this suggestion you either a) annoy the people that ACTUALLY command, they will dislike it A LOT, being bothered with whoever takes what all the time. or b) People go commander just to get their own people assets, which isn't always the best way to distribute assets.

It also encourages people to make more random squads to get kits, go SL request kit then go do something else. The system we have now works fine, people already ask you for kits and if they disobey you kick them. Done. The only thing I would like to see changed is to be able to pickup all Limited, non-special, kits. (Grenadier for example).

I like it, but imagine how long it would take on say, Kashan, to get all asset squads the relevant kits needed (Commander would need to request Pilot/Crewman many many times over)

It's probably hardcoded, but what if, when a player requests a kit, their SL has the page-up page-down option to allow them to use it?

Good suggestion.

SQ able to request kits for squadmembers is a good idea. But not sure about CO part tbh.

About only SL able to request kits.

This would for sure encourage squad cohesion as well as role and authority of squad leaders, better solution for squad level teamwork than stupid and artificial Rally Points. Anything that makes less lonewolfing in game it's good. The best idea I would like to see is Fireteam Leader kit requestable by SL who can request infantry kits a well (especially for squads with more people that 6 if it will become standard in pr). So SL can promote one SQ member to Fireteam leader and 2 people in sq can request kits. Not sure if it's possible to ode that only kit x can request kit y. :P

Very, very good idea to shape player behavior and encourage teamwork! :)

About CO.

I see some problems, it may be too much and spammy. on some maps CO would have to patrol vehicle spawns. Also he may be in UAV, etc. Vehicle kits should be left as it is now. Also there are some occasions when crewman is dead and you go to the nearest fob if it's by the way to main for him. Also as you said it my provoke abuses on some lesser admined servers when someone gives vehicles to people who he favors. So rather no for that part.

Hm... so if you are a kid new to the game, and you badly want that sniper/marksman kit, what you have to do is:
Wait till it's 1:31 before the start of the round (on servers with 1:30 rule). Make a squad. Wait 1:30 secs. Spawn, run to the crate. Request sniper kit and switch to it.
The way I see it, we'll end up with 9 noobs/pests on SL position.

Now I don't want to say I'm against the suggestion, but you/we have to think through it...
Maybe make special kits unavailable for SL, even if he resigns (with "drop your weapon" black screen)?
What about squads named "KITS" with the guy just requesting as many kits as possible?

I'm glad people are still thinking about this problem.

There are a few points where I feel the system would exert more strain on the SL than it would relieve.

The most important in my view though is that there have been many instances in which I need a Squaddie to grab a kit from a crate that is several hundred metres away and I absolutely can't spare another player and at the very least me as the overall coordinator of the squad, just to pick up a kit.

The typical situation is: OH FUCK! AN APC!!!! ... and whoever is nearest a crate/can reach a crate gets a LAT.

With this system such a situation would not be managable, although it should be.

In respect to the CO. Just no. Anyone who has played CO as an actual leader/coordinator knows that there are definetly enough tasks for a CO already.

I someone wants a sniper, they'll get it, only this time they'll take up a squad slot instead

Also, favouritism can get involved. For example, if someone is well known as a good pilot, the commander may choose them over someone else every time, or just one of their mates.

The idea about requesting marksman, HAT etc. is a good one though but can it not be done so that you request a kit and then the squad leader/CO gets a page up/page down message in the corner to let it be confirmed?

EDIT looks like jack had this idea too

It should be reasonably managable, yes.

By imposing this system you simply make it artificially less managable by insisting that the AT-4 will only come out of the Box if it's favourite Player personally asks it to. Which, in the face of it, is laughable.

Now the Page Up/Page Down version of it all is a different matter, since the SL doesnt have to physically(well in the game world ;P) be present.
