vent/ts would result in chaos IF everybody used it. but that wouldn't happen anyways. instead people would have no squad to squad coms.kingofthreads wrote:it should be the servers choice really. If they want to have a ventrillo or mumble or TS enforced server then so be it. If they want to let it be purely an option then that is fine. Let the people who own the server make the choice seeing as they are the ones who have a vested interest in the servers survival and probably know what is needed for the server to survive and prosper.

If any 256 or 128 server licenses get out. They should be included with enforced mumble usaged.

May I ask what processor this server was running? For curiosity purposes.

My 2 Cents...
Let the players decide what server sizes they want to play on.
Make 128+ available and the players will vote with their feet.
Plenty of mmo games have massive servers and there is no shortage of players for those.
Shoot for the Stars!
Integrity.

Re: 256 player servers.. or not
sure they are ... but many things they share in common.
1. Player base. Same size if not larger, they already have the pc, you just have to get them to play. The market is there.
2. The fact that a server is larger I think in no way draws away from other servers, you can learn this from mmos, they have easily multiple 128+ servers. You can also see this on PR. The server is full and what does everyone do? They go play on another server while they wait for it open up. That's what I've been doing.
3. There are FPS MMOs, WW2Online. PR could very well be considered by some a RPG.

I think few 128 server licenses and maybe one 200 event server would be best

I'm against that.
The guy PAY for is server and the slots, even at 1$ Per Slot its still 256$ (+Tx) / 128$ / 64$, no he dont pay for P.R., but you dont either. Alot of people have alot of difficulty using mumble, and except for Squad Leading ( inter-Sq channel ) VoIP can handle it better than mumble. With 10 people sq, you have 2 fire team ok, but using mumble will make you uncapable of talking to the other FTL, or you will just simply use VoIP, wich bring us back to the starting point; you can't force people to have mumble.

Hotrod,
first of all, mumble is good... but I understand you.
I find it difficult to explain this, since I'm also in the dark... but something tells me every little thing gonna be all right.

I must admit despite my reservations Mumble is growing on me, but there still needs to be something in there to automute unlinked players. Pretty **** when your squad leader is talking on voip "OK tank moving to engage, hes coming in at bearing 1..[OH GOD, I CRASHED!, DID ANYONE ELSE CRASH?] " "Please repeat, did not read.... doesnt matter I'm dead"KingKong.CCCP wrote:first of all, mumble is good.

I'm not against mumble ( since i'm using it ), i'm just against the fact that people wanted it mandatory while you can acheive pretty much the same thing with VoIP.

With mumble you can talk to other squad leaders over sql chat directly without typing. You can also talk to blue guys who are not in your squad to warn them about the tank you just spotted(which if you would've taken the time to type it out it would've killed you).Hotrod525 wrote:I'm not against mumble ( since i'm using it ), i'm just against the fact that people wanted it mandatory while you can acheive pretty much the same thing with VoIP.

Re: 256 player servers.. or not
I think you have over estimated the player base PR has right now! To run more than one 128 servers would kill a lot of other really good servers! You are one of the few that would settle for another server as most wait in "the lobby" till a space frees up!Vicious302 wrote:

I am in no way against 128 play as I love it! BUT ... I think one server right now is enough and I also think it would be nice to see all friendly name tags before we move to bigger servers!

Re: 256 player servers.. or not
I disagree, this 128 player has not killed any servers. infact i didn't even play til there was 128 players and most of the time it's full so i've found myself not playing at all again..
and all this talk about licenses... is horse ****. i'm glad one person was able to crack this code but it should be available to all to use as they please not capitalized, shame on you.

Well PR servers are running with licenses already, and it would be only way to limit amount of big servers.Vicious302 wrote: and all this talk about licenses... is horse ****. i'm glad one person was able to crack this code but it should be available to all to use as they please not capitalized, shame on you.

PRTA has a lot harder time filling up since the 128 server is there. Because a lot of the regulars play there.Vicious302 wrote:I disagree, this 128 player has not killed any servers. infact i didn't even play til there was 128 players and most of the time it's full so i've found myself not playing at all again..

Re: 256 player servers.. or not
Mumble takes WAY too much bandwidth for me. It raises my ping too much and gets me kicked from servers.
