[?] Novice Modeler Assistance

Hello PR members.

I am attempting to dabble in modeling and hope to possibly, with hard work and perseverance, assist the PR modding community. Unfortunately with myself being a novice in this field I could greatly use some assistance from the community.
I have already downloaded an installed 3D Max Version 9 and begun attempting to mess around with the program and see what I can learn. As of now I am hoping someone would be kind enough to point me in the right direction and give me some points on where to begin.
I'm hoping in the future to model buildings and other miscellaneous static objects to help improve ambiance, but I was wondering what would be the best objects to start learning on. I've read over a few of the guides on the site but any tips or guides would be greatly appreciated. :-D

I've found that doing the old beginner speed modeling competitions at 3dm3 to be useful in improving my modeling skills.

We always welcome more modelers (and mappers and artists, etc.), but it will take quite a lot of practice to get up to PR standards if you've never done modeling before. BUT don't let that discourage you. I never had and now I've created a few small objects that are in PR and a few buildings that are in development.

I found that a good place to start was following the tutorials that come with 3ds max. They will teach you how to use the interface... i.e. moving around, changing your view, selecting objects, hiding and unhiding, etc. Once you get a hang of the interface, I would recommend these two tutorials:

You don't have to make a shed or a wall, but think of something fairly simple and use the tutorials as a guide. Good luck and have fun with it.

Hey! Good to see you have interest in modelling. These two tutorials should be very helpful (both are video tutorials):
Creating a weapon for Source (Glock)
Beretta 9000 video tutorial

Working along with those tutorials (recommend you start with the Glock one) should help you learn most of the basics. Good luck! :)

is there a demand for any particular style static? middle east, asian etc.

Download and watch the tutorials Adriaan posted.....Make a different pistol instead of the glock, but use the techniques shown. The stuff you learn in those tutorials will help you make almost anything, even high poly modelling. Watch em through, make something, and when you get stuck, look up the relevant section in the tutorial. Its how i got started modelling.

This is exactly what i started with, after i did these i started modeling Weapons from scratch.

Subscribed! I really wanna get started modeling too so I guess I'm gonna follow these steps. I had some limited previous experiences with wings 3d when I was like 14 lol.
