[Help] Black Patchs on terrain

Post by TheDarkOverlord »

After generating the lightmap for my map, I get black patchs on parts of the terrain. How can this be fixed?

Yes. And it looks fine in the editor, just when I load it in BF2, the black patches appear.

Sorry about the small picture size, but it wouldn't let me upload a bigger picture.

well i aint ran accross this type of prob before personly. Maybe try searching on the editor forums or posting on there: http://bfeditor.org/forums

what size map are you working on? if its a 1024x4 sized map it will have a lot of terrain glitches but it dosent look the same as what you are haveing at the mo.

What happens when you remove your lightmaps?

I have ran across then on my night map. I had to repaint the terrain using Bf2paint program, It has something to do with the color maps.

I downloaded bf2_tpaint, but it will not let me extract high.tga. I tried to run bf2_tsplit, but now my level will not load and it gives no error message. Luckily I backed up the level.

You don't want to use Bf2_tsplit, you want to use the regular bf2 paint.exe. Did you follow the url link in the folder? It will tell you how to use the program perfectly.

It works now, the problem was that the .rar file did not download correctly the first time, so all the file were not there. But now, my level crashes without giving an error message.

you don't get any error message?

should look like this

Version: 1.1.2716-548.0 Build date:2006-2-28 18:57
Module: TextureAtlas
File: DDiceCanandaXpack2CodeBF2RendDX9TextureAtlasTextureAtlas.cpp
Line: 62

Text: Couldn't open TAI file "Levels/My_Level/Lightmaps/Objects/LightmapAtlas.tai"

Current confile:

make sure your lightmaps folder is there and you have this file in your map folder

I have generated the Atlas Lightmap and it is in that folder, but the level still crashes at 44%.

Well you made a backup of your map right? So here is what I would do Delete your lightmaps and start again. If you don't have a backup of the map before you created lightmaps then just create a newlevel with the same size and take that lightmap folder and put it in your good map. This will make you start lightmaps again but atleast it will work.

Stupid me. I had IsNightMap Enabled.

Well, it works now, but the black patches are still appearing, but there are not as many, and they as only on cliffs and high areas.

Are you sure the GI lights are illuminating those areas? Those areas may be rendered as shade on the map. Also, did you put objects there? Maybe they're object shadows that haven't been deleted.
