Posterization

On most of the games I keep getting this posterization, it looks like some colours are missing or something.
Something like this

(on the left you can see posterization)

What could be the cause of it? Does my monitor have lack of colours or what?

I notice this on older gamers...
I assumed it was just because they were old on a combination of new hardware.

Well I get it on newer games too, arma2, cod and so on.
