Hey guys, my apartment actually offers business class broadband for pretty decent prices. And I was interested in hosting a server, but I have heard varying reports on the required internet speeds for smooth gameplay at 64 players.
I assume PR may use a little more bandwidth per player than vanilla? Can any server admins comment on the required bandwidth?
Thanks for your time and knowledge,

Re: Server Bandwidth?
I don't run a server, however i have heard it is around 10mbit? using around 10K GB a month.
Don't take my word for it though

Re: Server Bandwidth?
10Mbps seems to be on par with what I have been reading, but I still don't have a definitive for sure answer.
Thanks killonsight for your reply.
Can anyone else comment?

pm bahlye on here or bigdgaming.net, he's a super guy and might be able to give you some insight. I deactivated my login on bigd so I could focus on my job for a while so I can't search the forums but the stats are buried in a thread on bigd. I recall it was about 40 gb traffic over 7 hours? I think that works out to like 10 to 13 mbps.
And don't forget that 10 mbps is upstream

Re: Server Bandwidth?
Well on that image your peak hourly bandwidth usage was lower than expected at 8 mbps. That is an average over an hour so I would add 33% to that figure to account for spikes and lulls in usage, so roughly 10-11 mbps for a fully fed server. This is upstream only though, downstream is negligible as evidenced in the graph. If you run any voice servers on it you'd want a megabit or more of headroom as well .bahlye wrote:PR is a hungry lil Beastie I must say. (the stats are from a time when the server was full)

64 players 10-12 Mbit/s
128 players 20-24 Mbit/s
200 players 34-38 Mbit/s
