Burning sands?
I always wondered why the map burning sands is rarely played, when it is next in line its usually changed and when they do play it alot of people leave, is it because its heavier than other maps? or maybe crashes for people? do they plan to fix it in next release?
im asking because this is probably my favorite map in PR, with lots of machines and space to use it!

Re: Burning sands?
The current version of the map suffers from several bugs as well as performance issues. An updated and improved version is being worked on and will as far as I know be in the coming PR release.
Here's a detailed post explaining what's fixed; https://www.realitymod.com/forum/blogs/ ... ation.html

Its somewhat unstable right now. Rudd has already addressed the issues of the map for the next version I believe.

In the blog view distance is reduced by 50 meters, I dont know what the maximum view distance is but 50 meters is alot... part of why I like this map is you can have long range armor/cas combat with no obstacles
looks like I will try to play it as much as i can before that happens.

don't worry you barely notice the 50m, the fog distance is optimised a bit better to try and hide it.
Cheers for the kind words though mate, it really makes me feel more motivated

50 meters is half the range at which SL markers start showing up. That should give you an idea of how really small the reduction is.CoLdFiRe88 wrote:In the blog view distance is reduced by 50 meters, I dont know what the maximum view distance is but 50 meters is alot... part of why I like this map is you can have long range armor/cas combat with no obstacles

I also love this map and would like to play it more often but due to the bugs and crashes we do not run it regularly anymore.
I would really enjoy to see an improved version next patch so thanks for keeping up the great work.

TG seems to run it frequently, that or I am on around that time in the map rotation. Map offers plenty of aspects. Once the kinks are worked out, think it will be icing on the cake!

TG play it a fair bit. IIRC the Alternate version has far fewer bugs than the Standard version, but since many servers seem averse to playing the Alt versions that may have gone unnoticed.
Either way I agree with you, it is an excellent map and the few times I've played it have been great fun.

I'm hoping that Rudd's optimizations and fixes will cure this problem I have so I can play Burning Sands without any hassle. Others I play with and just random people that I've tried to get to gun in the Warrior IFV also have CTD problems. I can usually only play 5 - 10 minutes before crashing. - This further includes the 32 alternate version and 64 normal version.
heat issues possibly? the 68xx series chip set runs alot hotter than a 9800 i have a gigabyte hd 6870 over clocked edition and it idles at 30 degrees Celsius it gets up to 60 when i play arma 2 on very high. my freind has the msi 6870 and it gets up to 90 degrees when he plays arma 2. ventilation might be your poblem.

Re: Burning sands?
Actually, I believe the issue is ATI related. I have spoke with AFSoccer and I believe Rudd a little bit on the matter. It seems a lot of the CTD issues are more so experienced with ATI cards as well as the "invisible static LOD" (which in my case means an imminent CTD). I run an ATI HD5670(bad card, I know, but still ATI). Also, I haven't had overheating issues and I don't OC so...puppetmaster532 wrote:heat issues possibly? the 68xx series chip set runs alot hotter than a 9800 i have a gigabyte hd 6870 over clocked edition and it idles at 30 degrees Celsius it gets up to 60 when i play arma 2 on very high. my freind has the msi 6870 and it gets up to 90 degrees when he plays arma 2. ventilation might be your poblem.

Wait, I have that same card!! I thought overheating, loud noise and power consumption is supposed to be nvidias problems not ATI.ZephyrDark wrote:Actually, I believe the issue is ATI related. Re: Burning sands?
Plum, do you have issues with any other maps? (Iron Eagle, Shijia Valley(if you took part in the playtests on TG), and Jabal 2(when we did the playtest scrim with that as well), are a few to name that I had to turn my graphics all the way down to play with no problems whatsoever as well as Burning sands)

Re: Burning sands?
I have only got the chance to play this map one, it was on TG and I was an Apache gunner for the British side and before I had the chance to shoot a single shot, I got kicked to make room for a supporting member... like seriously guys??!?! lol
