Crash at Splash Screen

Post by Trichen »

Hi everyone, I've got an issue with starting up pr.exe, whenever I double click and the typical Project Reality Splash Screen Pops up, it sits there for about a minute then closes. Typically this is when the program will actually start, but in my case nothing happens, so it appears my computer has a problem at the screen itself. I would like to note, I installed the game using the EA download manager, so there is no physical disk to insert, rather an online verification each time I play the game, I'm just mentioning this in case it might be useful.

My computer specs are this:
OS: Windows 7 (32-Bit) ultimate
CPU: Intel i5 @2.67Ghz
RAM: 6GB (3.46 Usable)
GFX: Nvidia GeForce GTS 450
HDD: Seagate SATA 1TB

Also, whenever I've been able to get an error message from the splash screen, windows provides it, and this is the details of it:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: AppHangB1
Application Name: pr.exe
Application Version: 0.9.5.0
Application Timestamp: 4c9437ea
Hang Signature: 496f
Hang Type: 256
OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1
Locale ID: 1033
Additional Hang Signature 1: 496f25cdf948d8b1868b1fab5a490bb8
Additional Hang Signature 2: f357
Additional Hang Signature 3: f3571f90595906cdf460124b202ae42e
Additional Hang Signature 4: 496f
Additional Hang Signature 5: 496f25cdf948d8b1868b1fab5a490bb8
Additional Hang Signature 6: f357
Additional Hang Signature 7: f3571f90595906cdf460124b202ae42e

I've tried so far Configuring it to run in compatibility for Windows Vista & XP, running it as administrator.

The process I installed was this:
1) Installed BF2:CC via EADM
2) Patched BF2:CC from 1.0 -> 1.5
3) Installed PR patches from 1 - 3

If theres anything I can do better, it'd help me out allot, once again I've tried the suggestions in allot of the other searches here in the forum, but none of them have helped me so far.
Thanks in advance for the help!! :-)

try to launch battlefield 2 first.

maybe its this problem...
You need to launch Battlefield 2, and create or retrieve a profile at least once before you can open Project Reality. Project Reality needs a profile in order to do some stuff and open properly.

So basically, open Battlefield 2, create or retrieve a profile, quit, then launch PR from the desktop shortcut"
that was quote from developer of PR

and im not sure about these EA download manager things but with physical disk you need patch your battlefield 2 game first to 1.41 then 1.50 to get PR working.

I got the same probleme. My game starts and after the splash is there for a while pr.exe vanishes from the taskmanager.

I'm using:
Win7 x64 Professional
PR: 0.9.5

I first installed BF2 from DVD then patched all the way to 1.5, launched bf2, retrieved my acc, set video settings and played a match (offline and online). Then in installed PR. It worked already on this machine some time ago but I reinstalled windows and no everything is screwed up.

EDIT:
Oh and I tried compability mode WinXP SP3 as well as normal startup but all the same.

I had this and took two days to sort it out.

I uninstalled BF2 and PR (i also uninstalled BF:2 SO)

Then i cleaned the registry using CCleaner.

Restarted the computer.

Installed BF2 ON ITS OWN WITH NO ADD ONS!!!

Patched it!

Restarted again!

Installed PR.

And Prayed to The God of PC's!

I hope this works for you man!

unfortunately it didn't. I also tried to change the video.con file as supposed in this thread here: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f370-pr-tech-archives/92265-solved-win7-pr-logo-comes-up-then-closes.html#post1513011
