If you have already tried the suggestions from the stickies then you should go and open a support ticket with punkbuster and at the same time contact GameStop about this issue. It is possible that the CD-Key is infact invalid - maybe GS will give you a different one.

I understand that you are having trouble activating your game. I'll be happy to help with this.

Your difficulty activating your product is most likely caused by interference from an Internet security application or a security setting within your operating system.

To correct your problem, please follow the troubleshooting steps below. Perform these steps in order, and after you have completed each step, start your product to check if the problem has been resolved.

Note: Some instructions below may require that you change settings in or deactivate a third-party product. Trymedia Games is not able to provide specific information or instructions on third-party software. For more information, please refer to the product documentation in the help files, a printed manual, or on the Internet. You may also be able to contact the product publisher's technical support department for further assistance.

A. Download Managers
B. Pop-up Blockers
C. Internet Explorer Settings
D. Proxy Servers
E. Antivirus / Firewall / Spyware Blockers

Note: Due to the wide variety of Internet security applications, we are unable to provide product-specific instructions. Please consult with your product's manual or help documentation for further instructions.

A. Download Managers

If you are using a Download Manager such as Real One, Download Accelerator Plus, GetRight, or Netscape Smart Download, you will need to disable it. These download managers do not work properly with our software and will interfere with the download, installation, and activation of your product.

B. Pop-up Blockers

Pop-up blockers may interfere with product activations. Temporarily disable any pop-up blocker that is currently running until the product has been installed.

C. Internet Explorer Settings

Our licensing system uses Internet Explorer and some IE security settings may interfere with the product activation. To fix the problem, please follow the steps below.

1. Start Internet Explorer.
2. Click Tools and then click Internet Options.

3A - For Internet Explorer 8

On the General tab under Browsing History click Delete. On the Delete Browsing History window, select the checkbox next to Temporary Internet Files. It is ok to leave the other options unchecked. Click Delete Files. When you see the confirmation prompt, click Yes, and then click Close.

3B - For Internet Explorer 7

On the General tab under Browsing History click Delete. On the Delete Browsing History window next to Temporary Internet Files, click Delete Files. When you see the confirmation prompt, click Yes, and then click Close.

3C - For Internet Explorer 6

On the General tab under the Temporary Internet Files section click Delete Files. On the dialogue box, check Delete all offline content, and then click OK.

4. On the Security tab, click Trusted sites then click Sites.
5. Uncheck the “Require server verification” box.
6. In the “Add this Web site…” box type or paste:

license.ws.trymedia.com

fe.trymedia.com

7. Click Add. Once the entry has been added, click Close.
8. On the Privacy tab, move the slider to Medium and then click Apply.
9. Click OK then exit Internet Explorer.

Note: If the activation is successful after performing these steps, you can reset the settings to their previous positions.

D. Proxy Servers

Our product downloads do not work through proxy servers. Ensure they are disabled in Internet Explorer.

1. Start Internet Explorer.
2. Click Tools and then click Internet Options.
3. On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.
4. Uncheck "Automatically detect proxy settings."
5. Uncheck "Use a proxy server for your LAN," then click OK.
6. Click Apply and then click OK.

E. Antivirus / Firewall / Spyware Blockers

Products from Trymedia Games and our partners are virus and spyware free. Internet security applications including virus scanners, firewalls, and spyware blockers may sometimes give a false reading which can interfere with our software activation process.

If you're seeing an adware alert at the beginning of the download, it is most likely caused by the advertisement that we display on our download manager application. Please be assured that this is not a virus or malware. The advertisement is only displayed during the game download, and it won't be downloaded, installed or saved on your computer.

To correct this issue you have several options:

1. Temporarily disable your security application until you have downloaded, installed, and activated your product.

Note: Trymedia strongly recommends that you re-enable your security software after activating your product. Disabling your security software is of your own discretion, and Trymedia disclaims any liability or claims for damage arising from your decision to disable this program.

2. You may be able to exclude the ActiveMARK product in your security application. To mark the product as safe, refer to your security application's product manual or help documentation for further instructions.

Do not hesitate to contact us again if you need further assistance.

I am not exactly sure either.

What they are suggesting is deactivating any software that might interfere - usually security software like Firewalls and Anti-Virus.

"Your difficulty activating your product" and the thing about internet explorer is totally strange to me. Maybe they are thinking that you are trying to "activate" / register BF2 with EA - this is not the case you should clarify that this occurs when trying to play on an online server that is PB secured. But as soon as you write about Punkbuster they will redirect you to them.

I solved my problem by restarting my router so my IP adress changed.

As far as I know, on certain rare occasions the EA master server still reads your CD-Key like you are in a game. While the CD-Key is in use it will show the dreaded "Your CDkey is invalid".

Restarting your router connection (or plug out the power cable if you don't know how to) will most likely solve your problem.

Try it and come back with results.
