you can do that for mumble i think.... i dunno, you'd have to plug your headphones in a different sound jack.

I use a cheap VOIP microphone and a set of earbuds. I dont have any issues with ambient noises causing problems.
but I am not quite sure I understand what your question is...

yah mumble im sure you can but with voip the game already Lowers the volume of surrounding noises when people are talking i dont think its possible to just allow voices to come through . . Unless you can find a way to boost the voice incoming input and lower the over all environment sounds / General volume . . but i dont think it would be worth the time spent

speakers: all in game sound effects
earphones: VOIP/mumble communications

I'm not sure thats possible. I'd recommend just getting a good and comfortable headset. I dont even have speakers plugged into my pc atm, I'm exclusively using my steelseries headset.

Re: Earphones for VOIP/Mumble?
I think you need two soundcards, with the game sound going through card A and the Mumble sound going through card B (ingame VOIP is afaik not possible to seperate from effects, since it comes from the same source). A fellow forum member named KingKong has some experience with it if I remember correctly, but I can't seem to find his thread on it...
If that's indeed the way to do it, I wouldn't say its worth the money unless you've got a second soundcard laying around or two soundcards already in your PC ofcourse. I can imagine that if you do get it working it would be quite alot easier to hear whats going on when theres alot of comms.

This is indeed the only way to do it.[R-CON]Adriaan wrote:I think you need two soundcards, with the game sound going through card A and the Mumble sound going through card B (ingame VOIP is afaik not possible to seperate from effects, since it comes from the same source). Start PR on soundcard one, get in game and let everything load in. After that, run the command 'mmsys.cpl' , swap to soundcard 2 and launch mumble. All the sounds from mumble will be processed via soundcard 2 (where you plug your earbuds in) and all BF2 sounds (including VOIP, you can't separate that) will be processed by soundcard 1.

Re: Earphones for VOIP/Mumble?
You can set output device on mumble, so i don't think you need to run mmsys.cpl to do it. Separating voip from bf2 is not possible.

Get PR-Mumble 1.0

Splitting VOIP?
After taking a break from PR and playing some of my favorite console tactical shooters (SOCOM anyone?
), I was reminded how nice it was to have a separate channel for VOIP.
This has been around in console shooters at least since Rainbow Six 3, but not many PC shooters, not to mention not BF2 or PR have built-in ways to separate VOIP output.
Does anyone know of or use a program or workaround to output just VOIP (even if its just teamspeak or Mumble) to a headset, while still outputting FX to a speaker out? I did a brief search and could not find anything that would split the audio like this.
This would let me take full advantage of my jawesome audio system, while only having to use a minimal headset. It would also be more immersive and realistic, not to mention making it easier to hear people on VOIP in a chopper.

Re: Earphones for VOIP/Mumble?
you dont need 2 sound cards...
(but you do need front and read speaker jacks and a combined microphone headset thing, ie. not stand alone mic)
on vista:
open the realteck audio manager thing, (make sure your speakers are pluged into seperate jacks to the headset)
then on the side there should be an option to spilt the sound between the two jacks. enable this feature. (realteck should recognise you plugged in a headset with mic, as well as speakers)
launch mumble
then on the setup screen thing, make sure you select the right output for mumble (ie. the headsets not the speakers -both will be listed)
launch pr.
pr comes through the desktop speakers and mumble runs through the headset
