Voip Issues
Hi All,
Been having problems with voip for a couple of months now! I'm coming to my wits end!
The problem is this, sometimes I can join a game and everything will be fine for the first few minutes, sometimes even two rounds before it just stops working. Its most common that I can't hear other people, but they can hear me. Sometimes they can't hear me aswell.....
I have tried the following so far
Reinstalled Win7
Reinstalled BF2 (proper manual uninstall)
Reinstalled new soundcard, and onboard sound drivers
Tried using both my soundcard and onboard sound
Open various ports on my router
Disabled windows firewall
Disabled anti vir
Tried running without ventrilo in the background
Disabled EAX
Tried audio settings on software/hardware/creative X-fi
Disabled various playback and recording devices that wern't being used
I'm sure theres other things I've tried, but my mind is fried now.
OS is Win7 with a creative X-fi xtreme gamer card
I'm convinced the problem is not associated with the soundcard or onboard sound and their associated drivers, as I've tried both.
I've got it in my mind, that it might be possible that during a game BF2 looses the fact that I have a mic plugged in and disables voip? Thats the only thing I can think of right now.
Any suggestions are welcome, I need voip!
Thanks

Re: Voip Issues
- Run as administrator to rule out problems.
- Disallow exclusive control: For your playback (and recording device): right click on speaker icon, select "Playback devices", double click on your sound output device (usually "Speakers") go to advanced, untick "allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" (repeat for "recording devices")
- stop automatically reducing volume: in the "Sound" window go to "Communications"-tab and select "do nothing"
Also alt-tab out and check your "Mixer" (left click on speaker icon) if anything is muted or the lever pulled down.

Re: Voip Issues
I've just tried as you suggested, but with no luck
Joined Tactical Gamer server, no voip. Left that to join a random russian server, voip was working. Left that server to see if it worked in another, joined hardcore server, voip not working.

Re: Voip Issues
What are your results on this:
Are you running prMumble or regular mumble at the same time?
If your don't really need onboard sound, try disabling onboard sound in bios.
Check your audio driver program and see if it disabled the mic or recognized a change of plugs. When this happens go into audio settings an check if VOIP is magically disabled.
Also alt-tab out and check your "Mixer" (left click on speaker icon) if anything is muted or the lever pulled down.

Re: Voip Issues
Thanks for the help, bit of an update.
I have tried all of the above.
I decided to purchase a new PC the other day, with the Bonus thought that PR may work without hassle. I was wrong.
Built the PC, installed PR. Went to play, no incoming VOIP.
Added the UNP ports 55123, 55124, 55125 to my router.
Played it again today, played for around 30min with VOIP working incoming and outgoing. Then, without warning it was no longer reciving incoming.
Now, I am still using the same graphics card and sound card from the old PC. I ruled out the soundcard as I had the exact same problem with the onboard sound.
So I am stuck as what it could be that is cutting incoming VOIP off mid game. Could it be a problem with the router itself?

Re: Voip Issues
yeah i just wanted to suggest that , are you on wifi? see if you can go to your routers homepage, login as admin and have a look at your voip stats. also check the cabling to your router if everything is correct. or try to use skype and see how long it will transmit voip....

Re: Voip Issues
Right, tried again tonight. Played for around 20 min, then it dropped off again. Same problem, they can hear me, I can't hear them.
Baschi, I'm connected direct to the router. I can't see any specific options for voip, the only thing that I aware of in the router that affects VOIP is the ports, which have all be opened
I don't want to call my ISP just yet, I want to make sure its not my end, which I'm quite sure it is.
Anymore suggestions?

Re: Voip Issues
Its painfull isn't it? Nothing worse than having no voip, don't know what the f** is going on.BrandenburgKommando wrote:I have been having this EXACT same problem on Windows Vista for the last 2 months!
Once I eventually fix it, i'm going to start a new topic in here with all the different solutions people have found to fix their voip. Would be nice to have everything in one thread.
I'm off to have another go at it now. Grrrr.

Re: Voip Issues
I have configured all the .exe's in the BF2 folder and PR folder for compatibility with XP SP3, and to run as Admin.
Just managed to play a whole round, with no problems. Then the map changed, and voip stopped!!!
This is mind boggling...

See if maybe this applies:

(Security feature of the router detecting an attack and blocking the voip server)

Re: Voip Issues
Cheers for that, had a look and checked my logs but unfortunatly nothing showed up. All that was logged was me signing in as admin.
I think it may be worth me trying another router to see if it does change anything. Would I be able to use any router? I'm on BT fibre and I have the BT home hub router and the BT openreach fibre modem.

Re: Voip Issues
If the modem and the router are connected via Ethernet then you should be able to get a standard router to replace the other one.
But I am not exactly sure how your network is set up so you should provide some more information. How is each device connected, what is your internet connection?
Replacing the router sounds like a very good idea to rule out that your current router is the culprit. You could also try some other things like completely disabling the Firewall or putting your PC into the "DMZ" (only temporarily though, for testing purposes).
