I think there's still more room for optimization, I think its still possible to have an infinite view distance with almost no performance hit. Its all about optimization, cause everything as it gets further away, looses its quality, so in theory a well optimized game with infinite view distance shouldn't make a difference. It gets more complicated when you factor in using scopes, but then you still can optimize by making whatever you're scoping into go up a few LOD's.

There is a game engine in development which only shows the pixels which you can see. This means that you can actually run any game in the world like crisis 2 on ram, this is just the theory, if someone knows what im talking about im sure they can link, I myself forgot the name of it. :-D

YouTube - ‪unlimited detail‬‏

Unlimited Detail Technology - Home

Im not sure how well this would actually work, the guy who is narrating on most (or all) videos has good arguments and presents this future thing quite well. However in my opinion it sounds a bit too good to be true. Could work, but I doubt that we are there yet.... :/

all videos of this so far are similar to flight sims where everything really far off is just a height map and texture buildings are fairly simple in any urban environments shown too, i have doubts about this being used for an FPS like PR with high detail models and enter able statics. yes it only renders what's on screen but that means if you turn around real fast the high detail model of a vehicle behind you would take a second to render properly either A) making you drop frame rate like crazy or B) you see a it jump between LODs, meaning the first instant you see it would be very ugly.
Information in the hands of a critical thinker is invaluable, information alone is simply dangerous.

But ARMA is military SIM in general. It mostly relates to the USMC as a whole, not really focusing on Jets.

I'm talking about a true battleground with everchanging frontlines, kinda like the WII MMORPG, but I can't remember the name.
