Good day gentlemen,
I just picked up a new Logitech headset/mic and had some questions. I started vanilla BF2 and went to audio options and looks like everything is setup OK. VOIP is enabled and I have sound in headphones.
I'm just a little confused about what I need to do now to actively participate in PRBF2. Forgive me, I'm not really up-to-date on what programs are used for communication.
Do I need to get Teamspeak, Mumble or Ventrillo? Should I just download all of them? I pretty much only play PRBF2 so I need someone's opinion on what to get.
Thanks for ya'lls time.

BF2 has voip built into the game itself. As a squad member, you are able to speek to your fellow squad members and your squad leader. As a squad leader you are able to talk to your fellow squad members and the commander.
Teamspeak and ventrillo are only needed if you, your friends or clan tend to use it. They can be usefull if you and a group of friends want to keep in touch whilst in game.
Mumble is a whole different kettle o fish. I myself, have not used it yet as I am currently having enough trouble with the in game voip
As soon as that is sorted I will be sorting out mumble. I reccomend you get it though, and have a look through the forums for the guide to mumble, that will help alot.

Mumble is a great addition, not 100% necessary as only a few server enforce it as a rule, but it adds a lot to the game and I thoroughly recommend it =]. The above link has the installation guide and all you need to know to set it up.
If you don't know what it is; short description: It is a 3D positional audio system. It bases volume on distance away from the other players. It provides inter-squad chat and is very useful =].
But other than that, TS and ventrillo are normally only needed if you join a clan/group so you can get together more easily or confer whilst playing a game
