Map critique and German AT question

Post by Bellator »

I hate silent eagle for two reasons: 1. too many enterable buildings, which reduces the centre town into a stupid maze, and no AT weapons which leaves the tanks and apcs frustratingly overpowered in relation to infantry.

But the first point aside, why don't the Germans have AT weapons? If I recall correctly, they had some CTD issues or something. Then, why not give the Germans placeholders, Eryx or SRAW for HAT, and LAW for LAT? Or does that not avoid the problem?

Edit: well, no I don't hate the map.

Unlike the current situation (server side fix), for them to have a placeholder would require a client side patch.

Also are you seriously complaining about enterable houses? I mean the forums have like over 9000 posts asking for more enterables on maps.

Yes, they removed the Anti Tanks because of the massive CTDs we had at the release of PR0.95.
But that just means that the Infantry needs to work more together with their APCs and Tanks ;) .
And it's not just the Germans, the Russians also don't have a HAT Kit because it just would be unfair then ;)

Oh yes. It makes no sense that no one wouldn't lock the doors and cover the windows.

would I like to have a destructable/openable door and window on every building's opening? sure why not, would be fun.

is that really feasible? no, its not. Do you complain about this on muttrah?

in any case, fighting in the village is great fun, using buildings as firing points while preventing enemy infantry trying to flank you from another entrance to your residential section is great fun as far as I'm concerned. I specially like using the graveyard as a killzone, firing from the highground in to any section of the town I want to (the cost being more exposed to CAS/vehicles.

we had hoped to have a hotfix out regarding the HAT situation, but for various reasons we havent yet.
but as stated, teh Russians were given the same handicap, so theres no problem.

afaik we couldn't just give a different kit as that would require a client update, which is what we're going to do to fix the issue properly anyway.

Yes, locked doors are the ultimate obstacle of a soldier...

I don't have any problems with enter-able buildings, I get great FPS with or without them.

I'm afraid the "low-end system" minority is the one that complains the most, and has every right too. However, dumming the game down for a small percentage (iirc 15-20%) of the population isn't a good idea.

The "German AT" bug and the "Commander UAV" bugs are being fixed in the next release. Or at least having a placeholder be put in. It's not staying that way forever, so just be patient ;)

I don't have problems with any map (with the exception of Burning Sands, which problematic in many ways), nor do I get any lag or such with S-eagle center village, I just don't like the village as it currently stands. It isn't fun or realistic. The middle eastern cities feature too few enterable buildings (yes yes I know why), but this village has far to many.

Building to building fighting is wicked fun. This is why I like Muttrah.

Yeah there are two different warheads for LAT and HAT. You can shoot them in singleplayer/co-op on Lashkar Gah by requesting them off a crate, in case you want a sort of preview.

I personally think silent eagle is one of the most epic maps, as well its pretty balanced.
Sure, the tanks/apcs are a huge pain when they enter the city but on the other side they can easily be taken down when they are so exposed seing as they cant see every soldier, but every soldier can see them.

Best bit of that map is the lake.
Making a 2-4 man squad, sneaking around the lake, hiding in the grass while enemies walk past you and then walking up behind them and taking them out, laughing at the dumb havoc when it feels safe flying over the lake which is still their base.

Muttrah is fine, but if every building in Muttrah was readily accessible, like on Dragon Fly, it would be pretty awful.
