Do you get these black holes when your in-game too, or just when you're choosing kit?

Re: Graphic Problem
I cannot find a solution to these 'black hexagonal holes' ... they only started to appear after i recently updated my ATI drivers...( i cannot roll back to previous drivers as they cause PR to crash ) - i have tried all suggestions that i have seen on these forums - i.e .. set factory defaults on my GPU - set Catalyst AI to standard / disabled it , disabled all other 3D application settings - deleted mod cache in BF2 folder , re-optimised shaders numerous times with different settings - this is driving me up the wall !
- there MUST be a fix for this !? i cannot play PR anymore under these circumstances ...
my system :
Win 7 64 bit Home Premium (serv pack 1 )
AMD Athlon 2 x2 260 ( 3.2 duo )
4GB DDR3
ATI Radeon HD 4650
Please is there anyone who can shed any more light on this problem ?

Re: Graphic Problem
I have same problem, updated my ati graphics card drivers from 11.3 to 11.5 and lots of black holes appear on the ground and also more worse things like black sky when looking in certain places.
I use win xp 32bit sp3, ati 4850, done all the cache things and tried the solution for karambaitos, which was to put catalyst ai to standard, mine was already on standard, and all other settings in the ccc don't stop the black holes, not even aa ingame off and ccc off etc.
google found me a previous same issue from 2009
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... spots.html
he solved his by using ati tools to turn off optimize pixel shader in ccc, which current ccc does not have, but it is built into the catalyst ai, however as said, off/standard/advanced do not solve it for me, even tried restarting each time.
for sure its the 11.5 version of ati drivers, I remember in the release notes there being something similar to this "optimize pixel shader", well the thing is I also use ATI tools, the Ray Adams version, originally only to set my fan speed to 35 manual seeing as nothing else will do this, and I found the optimize pixel shader in tweaks>standard tweaks... however turning it off does not solve the black holes still... going to try again by reloading it

Re: Graphic Problem
I'm currently experiencing the same problem. It happened just after I updated my ATI drivers, a few days ago. I also tried all the fixes proposed in this thread and those I read on the web (and according to google, it's an old and well-known BF2 graphical bug), without success to eliminate these black holes.
Actually, I found a way to get rid of them : set the textures level to low. But that's not really what I was expecting. I already had to abandon the creative ultra high sound setting and get back to hardware high because of BSOD and now this... seems like the more the game gets older, the more it's hard to run it

Re: Graphic Problem
Setting the terrain on low in the video menu fixes this for me. I'm running 64-bit Windows 7 with the latest ATI drivers. A better solution would be appreciated.

Agreed we need a better solution. Low isn't that bad but still Battlefield 2 is a old game.[R-CON]nedlands1 wrote:Setting the terrain on low in the video menu fixes this for me. I'm running 64-bit Windows 7 with the latest ATI drivers. A better solution would be appreciated.

Re: Graphic Problem
Hmm interesting one for you guys:
I fiddled around with lots of settings and currently i'm using everything on high and the black spots have disappeared.
I set the ground textures to Low (cheers), and they disappeared. But all of the other in-game textures were low as well [?!]. So over the course of a few restarts I figured that if I edited the config file the dots would be gone, but the textures would stay on High. And I have a hunch that the Terrain Texture is high as well (with no black dots).
If you've got your Terrain Texture set to Low, perhaps it's worth editing the Config in your '[username]' Folder (i.e. for me it's 'Mike'). I manually set Terrain to 3 and it seems to have worked.
All of my CCC settings are maxed too, not sure if they actually make a difference though (surely 'Max' settings via the game is max settings available despite how high you put all the AF/AA sliders?).
I just got lucky, fingers crossed anyway.

Unfortunately, you must be one of few lucky guys. After I edited my Video setting in my profile folder, dots appeared again and textures was set to high... in which file did u tinker those settings?Mikemonster wrote:Hmm interesting one for you guys:

Re: Graphic Problem
I'm also experiencing this and it is starting to really get on my nerves. I like pr allot, but I like playing with good graphics as well. Maxing all settings on CCC and BF2 doesn't make PR look so bad, PR's graphics will still be appealing for another year or so. But if I'm forced to play with a setting on lowest, now that just spoils everything.
I'm going to try installing the 11.3 drivers, hopefully it will work.
