How was it?
I think that withouth console launcher, you get the Entertainment mode by default, maybe thats why you dont get BSOD.

So is the only fix we can hope for a fix by the PR Devs? As i understand it, this problem only occurs in Project Reality?

Re: Creative X-FI @ Ultra High = BSOD only in PR
No mate PR DEVs can't fix it. This is a pretty much core-related issue. I am sure that if BF2 would be as "hungry" for ressources as PR they would have that bug as well. I wished they had that bug because then they'd talk to Creative to fix it.
It just can't be effin possible that Creative does not know their own drivers.
"All" they gotta do is get BF2 (which they have FO SURE), get PR, play, fall in love and then start using bad words when they BSOD. Then let a scan-app run, check whats going on, done.

OK. So should we start a spam offensive on the Creative Supportforums to get this on their agenda? ^^

You think they'll listen? They haven't released a fully operation driver since the old days of only having Soundblaster (and back then it wasn't exactly hard). I bought a titanium fatality card about a year ago for my PC and its not really been a huge upgrade, and has caused me so much annoyance, not only in PR, but DOW2 where the sound would disappear when a lot of action went on (it should be able to support the whole 128 voices, but it couldn't >.>). So yeah in my new system, i can say I am glad to get rid of that blasted soundcard... On-board audio ftw.KEIOS wrote:OK. Also many thousands of people complained about the SLI issue. And the apparent 'nVidia only' motherboard problem(however it was pretty much all motherboards..). Nothing was done about either of them completely. They may have reduced it with a driver, but I still found exiting any game meant a restart of the soundcard unless I had awful quality (cracking popping fuzz and distortion all at once)

Well if Creative SB sucks that much why don't we start buying other cards. Any suggestions? I would like to know what card has that sound for PR as good as Creative SB cards but then without the annoying BSODs.

Re: Creative X-FI @ Ultra High = BSOD only in PR
Onboard soundcards do... I have an MSI-GD65 Motherboard, and the sound on that is as good as with the X-fi Titanium (technically better, as mumble did not work with the X-fi, had horrible static due to having SLI and creative still not fixing it..)chris2005 wrote:Well if Creative SB sucks that much why don't we start buying other cards. Also there are the soundcards from ASUS which are better by the looks of things... But other than that, Creative simply bought their competition when they were strong (with the original sounblaster series in the 90's, when DX10 wasn't around). DX10 removes the need/use of EAX. (Also I have not seen a game for years that avidly suggests using X-fi or creative on it..) Also Dolby is just better made and more widely used

FYI, Creative now has a beta driver for both PCIe and PCI X-fi that supposedly fix this problem.

Re: Creative X-FI @ Ultra High = BSOD only in PR
Also I wonder why I have these settings in the sound.con file:
rem *** 3D settings ***
Sound.setDopplerFactor 1
Sound.setRolloffFactor 1
Sound.setDistanceFactor 1
rem *** Performance settings ***
Sound.setPitchChangeRate 15
rem Sound.setTemplateLevel HIGH
rem *** Generated ***
game.setDisableSound 0
game.setChannels 32
game.setMasterVolume 75
game.setMenuMusicVolume 50
game.setMusicOnOff 1
game.setLocalizedDialog 0
game.setQuality 2
game.setSoundDetail 3
game.setHardware 0
I have set the sound settings in PR on Ultra High. The sound.con settings are "High mode" sound settings. Any ideas about this? I have the X-Fi Titanium - Fatal1ty Professional Serie (PCIe x1) sound card.

Re: Creative X-FI @ Ultra High = BSOD only in PR
I just gave up playing with X-Fi on Ultra-High a few days ago. High isnt that bad as I remembered.
Think there will never be a fix...
Would be nice if someone could test the new driver (i cant atm) , im not very confident but lets see.

Re: Creative X-FI @ Ultra High = BSOD only in PR
i had cracking on ultra high and high. I noticed a correlation between starting the game with teamspeak/mumble having a 99% chance of cracking while when starting the game and waiting till mapload was done to start teamspeak, there was only 5% chance of cracking sound

Re: Creative X-FI @ Ultra High = BSOD only in PR
hey X-Fi Users,
try the new Beta Driver from Creative. availible at Creative Homepage.
use the Beta Driver dated at May-25-2011
i played 4 Battles on Ultra High and got no BSOD.
Maps where:
-Korengal Valley Skirm
-Muttrah City
-Falluja West
-Qwai River (but just 10min.)
maybe anyone other try this and give feedback here.
i'll dont say "it fixed" not yet
