CPU Upgrade

Post by PatrickLA_CA »

I decided I'm going to buy myself a new CPU but I can't choose which one, I'm mainly buying it because of PR and Photoshop and other Adobe stuff..
I want to be able to play PR with more than 15 fps on Fallujah and other maps like that, so I need an advice of what kind of CPU should I buy?
And not to be over 100 euros.
Here's my PC specs if you need it:

Current CPU: Intel Pentium D 925 3.00 GHz

Motherboard: Foxconn 45GM/45CM/45CM-S
Chipset: Intel i945G

RAM: 3GB DDR2 (332.2MHz)

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 9600GT 512MB DDR3

Note: Specs are from CPU-Z and it's in high detail, which means I'll need one compatible with this hardware.
I can provide more details if needed.

This site: your MOBO spec page

Says these are compatible with your MOBO
Intel?Core?2 Extreme, Core?2 Duo, Pentium? Dual-Core, Pentium? D, Pentium? 4, Celeron? D, Celeron? processors, Socket T (LGA775)

So you are probably looking at a Core2 Extreme, or a Core2 Duo if my research is correct.

Don't know why copy/paste doesn't work correctly. All of the ? are ?

edit 2: evidently this forum doesnt like special sharacters. The ? is supposed to be a Copyright mark the circle with the C in it.

Hello,

you say this:
Motherboard: Foxconn 45GM/45CM/45CM-S

We would need to know the actual motherboard, each of those are different models:
You might need to open up the PC and look for the marking on the actual motherboard if you don't know for certain which model you have...

I suggest faster ram too if you motherboard will support it. 333mhz won't quite be quick enough, and maybe causing some of the slow-up.

Hmm...I searched the shops websites in my country and none of them seem to have core 2 duo on their price list, but most of the time they have more stuff in stock than on pricelist... I'll have to ask around, btw the extreme seems a bit too expensive, I found it online for 500$ .

Yes, I would not buy the X6800, it is too expensive, for that price you can almost buy a full PC.
You can probably find a used e6600 or e6700 very cheap on EBay or other auction sites.

I'm using EBay.de as an example:
for under 40 Euros you can probably find a CPU...

intel E6700 | eBay

Also, see if you can find any shops that sell off-lease office equipment, they might have a bucket full of e6600's in the shop because they were the most popular CPU for office PCs for almost 3 years.

Happy hunting
