Help with specs!

Post by brad0131 »

Hello, I am in the process of beginning my BF2 :P R Career. I would like some suggestions/Help about PC specs for PR. My specs are:

AMD AthlonII X2 215 @ 2.7 GHZ
4GB of Ram
500 GB Hard Drive
EVGA Geforce GT 430 1 GB GDDR3
Windows 7 64 Bit

How do you think this will perform? I know it's not the best but I hope it is decent enough.

Also, my monitor resolution is 1336x768. How will this affect it also?

Are you sure? I ran it when I had integrated graphics card and it seemed that the graphics card totally brought down the game. I'm sure my new one will Speed up the game alot. I just dont want it to lag too much so it's unplayable. Thanks for the help though!

Thank You! If I lower the resolution will it also speed it up? I'm also running wireless N speeds from an adapter downstairs. When I download stuff I get 1.5 MB speeds. That shouldn't be a problem right?

DO NOT lower your resolution; it will make you less able to spot enemies, amongst other things.

I have 0.1MB/s download speeds, and I can play the game fine.

Try with high details, but if you have to lower them, lower terrain detail first. Less grass will have a very positive effect on performance (and also playing performance, although that is classed as cheating).

Try turning on at least 2x AA, as that will improve your gameplay a lot.

Thanks! Any preference when it comes to video cards? Like a Nvidia vs ATI priced around 80 bucks or so?

Your GT430 is very close to the GTS250 in performance (the GTS250 is very slightly faster). I used to have a GTS250 (before it exploded), and I could run PR on all high with a load of Anti-Aliasing.

Nvidia vs Ati causes such an argument that one thread lasted about a month arguing which card was best, before almost getting locked due to the big fight that developed! It really is down to personal preference, although your GT430, as said above, should be more than enough.

I also recommend you overclock your CPU to 3.0GHz or higher (if you can), as CPU speed plays a big part in most games. Google is your friend.

If you haven't installed PR yet the procedure is: Install BF2 - Install patch 1.41 - Install patch 1.5 - Install all three PR installers.

After you have it installed, play around on a local co-op (singleplayer) server to get used to the controls/new features, before playing on an online co-op or training server.

Read the manual; that is a must-do.

And, most of all; Enjoy!

Thank you so much! I dont think my computer came with overclocking, but there is a program called Gamebooster that I heard works really well to speed up your game.

Yes; gamebooster removes background tasks, frees up RAM etc. to speed up the game.

Your CPU should be alright without overclocking, and I heard that your particular one is fairly difficult (it needs to be unlocked first).

Just have a mess-about with the settings in game, and try to find an overall method that works for your system. If it runs slow, lower each setting one at a time to find which one affects the performance the most.

Some settings have to be left at high, because if they are lowered, they can affect how good you can be. View distance needs to be set at 100% to spot enemies easier, object detail and texture detail also helps with distinguishing enemies from friendlies.

As far as I know, you overclock your CPU from the BIOS and I think every CPU can be overclocked.

I use Gamebooster and it is quite a nice program!
I would highly recommend it!

New guy here... I didn't want to annoy anyone with an entirely new thread so I'm posting here as it's a related question.

While I have been playing PC games for quite some time (years in fact) I'm not tech savvy at all (how did I get this far? Who knows).

I've been checking out numerous videos of PR by some of it's devs and well known TG server players and wish to start a player career as well. I'm kind of scared as to whether or not I can run it. Here are my specs.

AMD Athlon II P340 Dual Core Processor 2.2 GHz
6GBs of RAM
300GB Hard Drive
AMD M880G w/ ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250
Windows 7 OS 64 bit

BF2 runs perfect but PR changes so much I'm not sure if I should be concerned or not. Some help would be appreciated.

It really depends on the map. There will be maps you can run all maxed out and there will be maps where the framerate might drop in the mid twenties with that rig. I would splurge on the graficcard and get a nice ATI HD 5850 or nvidia equivalent. My cost me 120 Euros in the bay, which should ammount to about 140 Dollars.
