The next version of Mumble...

Post by Oddsodz »

Well this a question for anybody that has more info about it.

It is my understanding that with the next version of PR (and I may be very VERY wrong on the matter). Mumble will be integrated. This in it self is not a bad thing.

But what I wish to know. Is it to replace VoIP? And if so, Will I still be able to mute players?

as I have said many a time before. Mumble is great when used in events like the PR-Tournament and the World Cup.

But for public play. I Find it a hindrance. This is all down players just not shutting the hell up (you know who you are). I Really don't need to hear 31 players all round going "bla bla bla Mumble Mumble my girlfriend/boyfriend stuck this up a bla bla bla" all round.

This issue for me is that when this sort of carry on is on going. I Am left with 2 choices. To leave the server or Mute the players or Global Mute. But alas. If you start muting to many players. Or Global Mute. You get kicked for "not beaning on Mumble".

So if the next version of PR has Mumble. Am I going to have to put up with hearing every tom **** or harry all game long?

If your positional audio works correctly, you won't be hearing everyone, just the people in your vicinity. The altitude bug will be fixed probably in the next mumble version so it won't be a problem for jets and helos either.

Spamming is a different matter of course, but it's easy enough to say "Shut up" to someone. And if it doesn't help there is usually (or should be at least) admins that can remove the spammer from the server.

I don't see how Mumble is a hindrance unless it's not working properly.

Oh, My Mumble is working just fine. But when you are with in the vicinity of most of your team. Then you can hear everybody. I Don't need that. And alas when telling somebody to "shut the hell up I am trying to listen for the OP4" and then don't. What are you going to do? Ask an admin to deal with him? Alt-Tab and mute? Don't help if it's the admin that won't shut up. Or there is no admins about. Like I said before else where. More adming duties for little to no real benefit.

What I am getting it is, Will I Have the same level of control over who have I to hear/listen too with the new mumble as I do right now with "VoIP"?

All of the same could be said for chat spam, including what if an admin won't shut up? But it seems to work.

Mumble is so useful. Having it integrated would be HELLA sweet. Finally, I would not have to worry if the person I'm yelling at to give me some ammo is on mumble or not.

This.

I rather like people messing about on mumble, it gives me a good laugh (which doesn't happen very often). When they don't shut up, just ask an admin or knife them. Simples!

I really hope that Mumble will get some kind of full support or full integretaion (call it how you want). I like the mumble positional audio communications, enhances the game in a very cool way. The abilty to perform non-squad communication about enemy spottings, tactics and such stuff is awesome, it also helps on most of the mumble server to create a better teamplay between the squads since they can talk to each other in these SL channels.
Well i also want to know WHEN and WHAT will be done with Mumble and PR :)

On +64 servers there really should be automatic global mute between mapchanges.
Humor is not bad, but when 5 people are yelling at same time with bad mic, it is just annoying.

Fix your mic, talk one at a time in mumble between mapchange/start-time
.. and we all have fun in there.. maybe :)

Some people are singing in there while others are trying to have conversation, its not a damn X-Factor or Idols >.<

I agree with this. When a round is over in the Sisu Server I just take out my headphones and wait for the next one.

Make sure Mumble runs in Administrator mode. If it's not you'll probably hear everyone else on your team.

Took me awhile to figure out what was wrong, but huge difference now...
