Wish I could play PR
I used to play PR a lot a few versions ago - I can't even remember what they were now. But my install of BF2 went totally haywire and refused to work on my computer, until randomly about a month or so ago I tried again and it works. So I updated everything, finally downloaded the latest PR and hopped in a server. The funny thing is, the game worked perfect for like 4 or 5 hours yesterday night - no problems.
Today I try to go online to another server, I connect fine - then after about 2 minutes in-game I get a Punkbuster kick for 125119 Disallowed program/driver. Oh how I loathe, detest, and despise Punkbuster with fervor. It caused me countless hours of grief in BF1942 and in Vanilla BF2 - and it returns once again to ruin my games. I have no earthly idea what is the problem, but I have literally terminated every process I can. I do have Xfire, and I do have Steam - I turned both of those off, disabled my firewall, shut off all my Logitech software (I have a G15 keyboard and G500 mouse). And still, non-stop kicks are all I get. I downloaded the alt+tab hotfix that someone claimed caused this and still no solution.
I had the latest version (1.5) installed before I installed PR, and I have all the PR stuff. I just don't get what Punkbuster keeps kicking me for. Has anyone else had this problem to point to something? I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit if that has any factor. What's stupid, is that I am not running anything new that I wasn't when I was on that first server that I played on for 5 hours that never kicked me once - but now I keep getting kicked from servers (I haven't tried that server again - always full so I can't join). Someone help me out here, otherwise I'm stuck with no PR since I can't do much with 2 minutes of in-game time before a kick. Sometimes I think dealing with cheaters would be better than having worthless Punkbuster kick me (And I know many others) for stupid things that aren't even cheats.
Also sorry if this is the wrong forum section, but this isn't quite a "bug" I think - clearly it's something that stupid Punkbuster doesn't like - though what that is, I haven't the vaguest idea.

Re: Wish I could play PR
I entered that in when I joined a server, and I still got the boot about 2-3 minutes in, same deal about Disallowed program/driver. I was able to join that other server that didn't kick me the first time I started playing - and it never kicked me. I played on there for maybe an hour and a half with no problems. The server is the Hardcore clan server =}H{= I think was the tag - the AAS/INS one. But every other server I try kicks me except that one. Is it that their server doesn't use Punkbuster or is this something else? I'm glad I can play PR on at least one server but if they go empty or get full then I'm SOL for playing, but I can't see what is causing this problem.
EDIT: Oh, and it must just be one of the Hardcore servers - I joined one that must be a different number server, and it kicked me same as all the others. I have to wonder how much Punkbuster has stopped real cheaters versus how much they have infuriated and hindered people who aren't cheating - I imagine the latter category far outweighs the prior.

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I question if the 64-bit has any factor on Punkbuster not working right - but whatever the case I don't understand how there is literally only one server I can join and not get kicked from by Punkbuster and all the others will boot me within 3 minutes.

I am, running WIN7 64 bit. no problems with punkbuster here.
That PB kick occurs when there is a program running that PB doesn't like.
There are a few threads on the Steam forums about this kick. If you have Steam Running it might be causing it.

Re: Wish I could play PR
Are you running any other applications at the same time as PR?
I'm not sure what the problem is but what I'd do is
1) run a virus scan, perhaps some malware is causing this
2) update PB with pbsetup.exe and test it with pbsvc.exe PunkBuster Online Countermeasures
3) run game booster to help see what programs are running and perhaps turn them off for gaming only Download Game Booster

It's a MadLib, a grammar game where you fill in certain blanks in phrases with random words. I think he's trying to point out that these kind of punkbuster related posts happen all the time, only with a few words and variables changed.mockingbird0901 wrote:What's up with the links in the quote?![]()

This is bad, you said you turned off all process that doesn't fullfill any important roles on your pc...
1) Are you Hardware Driver Updated?
2) Do you have any tools that give you an overlay? Maybe turn off these too (if you haven't done already)
3) Last idea: Try to contact one of the Hardcore Server Admins, if I remember right, the Admins can allow and disallow different programs for Punkbuster, maybe you could ask if they give you a list and then someone's server where you are getting kicked. Then compare and check if you see a difference.

Re: Wish I could play PR
PB was updated, I did everything people normally suggest and didn't work. But the past day or two it's worked fine on most servers. Though now I wonder if it was even worth it.
Deviating from the initial reason I needed to post this thread, I'm not so sure it's good that I got to play PR now. Aside from difficulty complaints (I'm well aware of the "Wow I didn't see them but they pinpointed me and headshot me from across the map" from Arma), this game takes the original and requires too much of the standard player. Expecting them to form useful squads, that give out and follow commands and work toward a common goal is WAY too much to ask of standard players. The only people who do it are those jerks in clans, and then they exclude everyone else. Being someone who detests clans, I refuse to join them - so the options are to be stuck with a squad of random people who rarely do what they're told to do or SL's that never command anything. Most of the time there is no commander, and rightfully so since no one listens to what he gives out as orders. This lack of communcation (Not from lacking the ability, just the lackingness of well everyone to do what they're told) makes the game so much less fun than could be possible.
So in my time playing, I have never been able to use a tank, use an APC/IFV, fly an attack helicopter, or even really help the team with a logistics truck. On the various servers I join, no one will join my squad if I name it properly - no one will crew a tank or APC with you so you're stuck solo'ing it with no useable gun (Since the game prohibits this - thinking that will encourage team play, when it really just means 85% of the time the tanks and APCs are still sitting in main spawn because no one will squad up and use one with you - and the squads that do use tanks are 2 man squads that they lock and let no one else in). So I get stuck doing logistics, that's okay fun enough if I can help others win since most people won't do this. Except no one will EVER tell me they need a supply crate. So I can either sit around in the truck doing nothing or just randomly go somewhere and drop a crate - because God knows no one will ask for one or anything. Psh, who needs teamwork when you can just run in and gun with no buildings, support, or command structure!
I tried flying the transport choppers too. The many ridiculous requests from people to land on top of a tree or something absurd and then proceed to either yell at you for not putting them on top of a tree or cursing at you for crashing when you did as they asked. Hey, why appreciate someone who's trying to help you out - just curse at them and they'll continue to help! As usual, PR is one of those games that is just NOT possible to play without a group of friends that you know - and a game that fails like this is just not fun. I rarely got to even kill anyone. But other Co-op games do fine, based on how they're setup. L4D requires you to rely on other teammates, and while it's occasional you'll get an idiot or two - people can grasp the goals and work together to win. The entire atmosphere of PR just hurts any natural goals people would have.
While I enjoy the game the few times it works the way it is intended, you're asking regular gamers to play military minded and people just won't do it. The people who will are in clans, like a bunch of people closed off to society who won't talk to you, help you, or do anything for you if you aren't wearing their clan tag. Then there's another group of people who play who insist on Teamspeak, Mumble, and VOIP. Okay I don't use TS for anything - I don't care about talking to strangers on the internet and since games all have in-game chat that's what I'll use if I decide to. VOIP on BF2 is horrible, I can barely hear anyone when they talk and I have receive set as loud as possible. I've tested my mic and while it's really loud on my desktop it's so faint in BF2 and very low quality (Compared to how it sounds in other games or when using voice recorder). Mumble is a worthless program, and I say that because this program BSOD's my computer when I try to use it - that is, when it isn't "Not Responding". So I take offense at servers who make you use it - I won't because it crashes my computer. If they'd make a program coded proper that didn't crash on a common setup PC that many others would have I'd think about it.
So to me it seems the standard PR server is full of people who are closed off from the rest of the world, in their own bubble with their ignorant clan - or is totally oblivious and does nothing but play by themselves with no attempt at teamwork. I made an APC squad to use the APCs no one would use and of course no one would join with me so I could have a gunner - I finally just solo with it to get on land, and when I get blown up by a missile someone on my team just says "Worst APC driver ever." Glad to know my teammates were watching me ask for help and ask for another member, and instead choosing to have no squad and doing nothing useful by not being in a squad. I've tried being medic and saving downed people, but since no one ever revives these people always give up before I can get to them - even after I tell them I will revive people, stop just giving up. No one ever listens.
Whatever this problem is, PR is the only game I've played that makes the game fall on its face from the players being stupid. Other co-op games manage to still be fun even when the other idiots on your team aren't working in a squad-like fashion. Red Orchestra, L4D, BF:BC2, CoD (I refer to 4 and WaW the last ones I bothered playing), TF2 - all can be fun with or without great team work. I think it's this strong prohibiting of who can get what kits, who can do what when they're this or that, all your in-game restrictions are so heavy that if the team isn't gung-ho teamwork then they're going to screw around in base or just run out die, then do it again. It can work that way too since if both teams are like that the game stretches on forever. I played one match tonight in a squad with a great leader, a good commander, and we wiped the map in like 10 minutes - fastest PR game I've ever played. Enemy team had no commander and the highest scoring squad didn't come close to ours and wasn't even full. That was a great example of one team that does team work and the other that doesn't - I'm sure everyone on that other team had a miserable time.
Expecting players to do this is not reasonable, not on the level you're asking. Red Orchestra requires cooperative teamwork to succeed but even then the game is still fun and possible to win without a gung-ho effort if you have a few intelligent players (Usually the case in all games). I'm sure someone is gonna come on here and say "You don't have to play the mod if you don't like it" or some such, but I do like it - I hate the way it is setup because it makes the time that it is really a lot of fun very minimal and at pure random. Eh, I can't see this game changing much - so while I'm sure I won't stop playing forever (The fun times are still pretty good) I'm probably going to reduce this one to minimal play time again. Too many other games that can be fun or really fun based on the team your on as opposed to no fun with a bad team and lots of fun with a good team. I have NEVER played a PR match with two good teams, which I'm sure is what you guys had in mind. When that happens? Clan vs clan matches...which requires the isolation from normal people and devotion to some clan. I'm sorry but that's just too much for me, I want a game I can pop in and have some fun for a few hours and then leave - not some planned meeting with arbitrary rules and whatnot that the clan enacted for the purposes of the match or some such.
Take my opinion for what you want, just wanted to share my thoughts. I hate when a game I enjoy is ruined for one reason or another that is out of my control. I loved Forgotten Hope on the original BF1942, but then they made FH2 which was rubbish compared to how good the original was - and now the original FH is all but dead basically. Though if I understand it right, no more new versions of PR for BF2 - no? If so then I guess my only hope is to see what your other projects turn out like, a shame though since I might forget by the time the new version of PR is out.
Ah well, that's all for now folks. I'm sure most people won't read all of what I wrote, but maybe the PR team will. I'm sure a lot of people agree with me on these points, but most won't take the time to register and post about it. But then again, maybe BF2 is just not much of a good platform to work off of.

umm wow thats a lot of text
yes there will still be new versions for pr bf2
they are working on vietnam know too so its gona come out soon
but you most likely had a bad game with the influx of new players teamwork is falling apart on some servers
so grab some friends and go to town
it took me a while to get used to this game i too though that it was too complex
but in the end everything worked out fine

Re: Wish I could play PR
i get your point, the commander should be obligatory. but thats not possible on standard public servers, since 40 or so percent of the gamers want instant fun instead of a solid lead. which is a pity, hence you know what could be possible with the mod`s design and structure.
so what i think should be a must is for all the players to be in mumble, especially the SLs, to let every other one know what their squad is up to, whats their plan and figure out whos doin what.
what i dont get is why some people dont get that the mod is ticket-based. why even bother joining a team when youre not going for the win.
