2 Seater Planes

Post by Ugly Duck »

BF2 will, of course, have 2 seater planes. It comes with the F-15E, and most likely oposing forces varients. PR is also adding the Tornado, a 2 seater for the new British forces. Currently it is my understanding that the only thing the Back Seater, or WSO, does is drop bombs. That's a great and a very usefull feature. Why not have something more, though? Make him usefull for more than just air-to-ground. Give the WSO some medium range air-to-air missiles. Less manueverable than a pilots Aim-9's, but faster and with a longer range. This way, the WSO could spot the enemy from a ways out and maybe be able to get off one of these missles before the enemy ever knew. AIM-120's are typicaly Beyond Visual Range missiles but for the sake of game play it would most likely be best if they were just able to track enemies close to the edge of the fog.

I like the idea, just as a variant. Would making the 2nd seater missiles(air-to-air) player guided be to far-fetched? It obviously can be done, but its not worth it if it affects(sp?) gameplay. I do like this idea tho.

I don't think they have air-to-air missles that are guided by actual personel. Only radar and infared seeking missles to my knowledge.

The British Starstreak High Velocity Missile is SACLOS laser guided and is available in an air-to-air configuration (it also has man-portable, ground-mount and self-propelled SAM configurations).
